‘The Crown’ Rep Responded to Prince Andrew Casting Rumor for Season 5

The main cast for The Crown Season 5 has already been announced. But a rumor around the role of Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, was started and got a response from the makers of the show. This is how the Netflix show included the royal in season 4 and how producers addressed the season 5 rumor.

Tom Byrne played Prince Andrew in season 4 and appeared in five episodes. Season 4 took place between 1979 and 1990. His most important appearance was in the episode “Favourites,” where Queen Elizabeth II (Olivia Colman) tried to figure out who her favorite child was.

The episode foreshadowed Prince Andrew’s future scandal of being linked to Jeffrey Epstein and being accused of sexually abusing an underage girl. However, he was dating a young American actor at the time. Queen Elizabeth II didn’t hold back her disapproval of this relationship. But you also got a sense that she had a close connection to the pilot.

Season 5 will most likely pick up not long after season 4’s finale. It will include Princess Diana and Prince Charles’s breakup. The cast has changed to reflect the passage of time.

Imelda Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Phillip, Lesley Manville will play Princess Margaret, and Elizabeth Debicki will play Princess Diana. The role of Prince Andrew has yet to be cast.

The Sun reported producers of The Crown advertised the Prince Andrew role to out-of-work actors on Spotlight. The advertisement said filming would last between August and January. The hired actor could return for season 6, which is scheduled to film from 2022 to 2023. The report claims this is after other actors failed to try to get the role.

“Prince Andrew is one of the most unpopular members of the royal family and wannabe stars aren’t exactly queuing up to play him,” a casting source said. “It’s not the sexiest role and is unlikely to set a Hollywood career alight,” the insider claimed.

A representative for the show denied this was the case to Deadline. “There is absolutely no struggle to cast any role for season 5 of The Crown and it is normal practice for productions to advertise in Spotlight,” the rep claimed.

This statement was released in April of 2021. An actor hasn’t been announced for the role since then, so it’s still a mystery as to which actor will fill it. It’s unclear how Prince Andrew will come into play in the new season. The real royal was married to Sarah, Duchess of York, during this time frame. But there is a good chance this won’t be included, given the show didn’t really focus on his life in the previous season.
