‘The Crown’ Will Probably Never Show Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Relationship Because of 1 Important Reason
The Crown is one of Netflix’s biggest hits. Its dramatized portrayal of the royal family has kept viewers hooked season after season.
Recently, the show has been exploring the ill-fated marriage between Prince Charles and Princess Diana, and many fans are probably wondering if The Crown will also explore Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s love story in the future. Unfortunately for some fans, that might not happen anytime soon. And there is an important reason for it.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly do not want ‘The Crown’ to show their relationship
The Crown does not have a reputation for portraying royals in a positive light, and it is alleged that Harry and Meghan are trying to keep the show from talking about their relationship.
According to The Mirror, royal author Angela Levin recalled a conversation she had with Harry “a couple of years ago.” She shared, “When I met Harry at Kensington Palace the first question he asked me was, ‘Are you watching The Crown?’ I mumbled and said, ‘are you and the rest of the Royal Family?’ He said, ‘yes, we’re all absolutely watching everything but I’m going to insist it stops before it reaches me.’”
The show’s recent portrayal of Charles and Diana’s marriage has caused a rise in anti-Charles comments on social media, so it makes sense if Harry and Meghan would like for The Crown to not focus on their lives.
‘The Crown’ creator once said he has no interest in showing Harry and Meghan’s love story
In any case, it does not seem like the creator of The Crown, Peter Morgan, wants to show Harry and Meghan’s story either. According to Vanity Fair, Morgan believes not much time has passed for their relationship to play out, which is why he does not think it is right to talk about them on the show.
“I was always really committed to not write about where we are now. I didn’t want to write about William or Harry or Meghan just because not enough time has passed—all that would feel journalistic,” Morgan shared. “They’re entitled to their privacy… I certainly don’t want to contribute to making their life even more uncomfortable than it already is.”
The Crown will run until season 6. However, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, that does not mean fans will get to see present-day events.
“To be clear, season six will not bring us any closer to present day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail,” Morgan said, according to the outlet.
Are other royals upset with Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal?
In September, it was reported that Harry and Meghan had signed a deal with Netflix to produce content for the streaming giant. Given how The Crown has often portrayed the royal family in a negative light, some royals are allegedly not happy with Harry and Meghan’s deal.
Back in September, an insider also reportedly told The Sun, “William and other senior royals are incredibly uncomfortable about this drama and livid Harry is now in partnership with the company that’s airing it.”
Speaking about the show’s portrayal of Diana’s personal struggles with bulimia being played out on The Crown, the insider added, “Viewers of The Crown wouldn’t expect the writers to ignore something which is now a matter of public record. But the royal family also wouldn’t expect one of their own to take money made by the profits of shows like this.”
