‘The Daily Show’: 8 Things You Didn’t Know About Trevor Noah

Jon Stewart’s last day on The Daily Show after 16 years was on August 6. Many of the previous correspondents — including Steve Carell, Larry Wilmore, John Oliver, Stephen Colbert, and more — appeared to say goodbye to the host. One of those goodbyes included Colbert telling him, “You were infuriatingly good at your job,” according to The New York Times. “All of us who were lucky enough to work with you for 16 years are better at our jobs because we got to watch you do yours.”

But now someone new will be hosting the talk show and many who don’t know him might feel a little worried. Trevor Noah will premiere in his first episode as the show’s host on September 28. He has acknowledged that the show will never be the same without Jon Stewart so they won’t strive for it to be.

The Daily Show was based on an emerging 24 hour news cycle, that’s everything it was,” Noah told reporters at the Television Critics Association according to Entertainment Weekly. “That’s what inspired The Daily Show. Now you look at news and it’s changed. It’s no longer predicated around 24 hour news. There are so many different choices. Half of it is online now.”

He then went on to say the show will include his angle and perspective. But to really get what his perspective would be you’ll have to know a few things about Trevor Noah. So here are eight very interesting things about the new host of The Daily Show.

1. His own existence was illegal in South Africa

Noah’s mother is African while his father is Swiss. Interracial relationships were illegal during the apartheid era in South Africa so the couple hid their relationship. Trevor Noah’s mother actually went to jail for being in an interracial relationship for a short period of time. Noah and his family would even lie to people saying that he had albinism to explain his lighter skin to others. In his comedy routines he talks about how he wasn’t allowed to walk on the same sidewalk as his father because of the color of his skin.

2. He got his start on a soap opera

He had his own talk show in 2010 that was based on American talk shows The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with Conan O’Brien, and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

6. He’s a good dancer
