‘The Defenders’: 8 Marvel Supporting Characters That Will Show Up
This year, The Defenders will bring together Netflix’s four main Marvel heroes: Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). We also know that Elektra (Elodie Yung) will serve as a series regular on the anticipated team-up series. But what other familiar faces are set to appear on the upcoming show? Here are eight favorite supporting characters that will show up in The Defenders:
1. Misty Knight
Simone Missick is set to reprise her role of Misty Knight from Luke Cage. The no-nonsense Harlem police detective proved to be a valuable ally to Luke in the freshman season of the series — and it looks like she’s not done helping him out yet. In September, Missick confirmed that the character will also be appearing in the upcoming superhero mashup, likely lending a hand to the bulletproof hero as he teams up with his fellow Defenders to take down the new big bad.
2. Karen Page
Deborah Ann Woll will also appear in The Defenders in her Daredevil role of Karen Page. A former assistant at Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson’s law firm, the character landed a new job as a burgeoning news reporter at The Bulletin in Season 2. In the season finale, she also learned of Murdock’s secret identity, but that’s far from the last we’ll see of her. In addition to having a role in The Defenders, Woll’s Page is also set to reappear alongside Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle in the upcoming The Punisher solo series.
3. Foggy Nelson
Elden Henson will be back as Murdock’s best friend and former law partner in The Defenders. The last time we saw him, his friendship with Murdock had hit a rough patch, worsened by the strain of the latter’s double-life as Daredevil. But Murdock and Woll aren’t the only Marvel figures that Nelson has a connection to moving forward. At the end of Daredevil Season 2, Henson lands a new job at the Manhattan law firm, Hogarth, Chao and Benowitz. Which leads us to …
4. Jeryn Hogarth
Also set to show up in The Defenders is Hogarth, played by Carrie-Ann Moss. The character was first introduced in Netflix’s Jessica Jones, often hiring the titular hero for help with cases and later defending Jones after she kills Kilgrave. She also appeared in Daredevil Season 2 to extend a job offer to Foggy. Before reprising the role in The Defenders, Moss’s Hogarth is set to appear as an ally to Danny Rand in Netflix’s upcoming solo series, Iron Fist.
After waging a war against The Hand in Daredevil Season 2, Murdock’s mentor, played by Scott Glenn, will return in The Defenders. Viewers can likely expect to learn more about his relationship with Elektra, following the revelation that she is the Black Sky and that Stick raised her to fight against her destiny. It’s also been rumored that The Hand may play a villainous role in the upcoming Defenders. If that’s the case, you can bet Stick will be involved in taking him down.
6. Trish Walker
The Defenders will also feature Rachael Taylor as Jessica Jones’s adoptive sister and best friend, Trish Walker. The character — who is expected to eventually transform into the hero Hellcat — helped Jones hunt down Kilgrave in the freshman season of Jessica Jones. Her talk show, Trish Talk, was also later referenced in an episode of Luke Cage. She is expected to play a big role in Jessica Jones Season 2, which will premiere after The Defenders.
7. Claire Temple
Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple is the only character to appear in every one of Netflix’s Marvel series so far and she’s set to continue that tradition in the future. Having saved the lives of both Daredevil and Luke Cage (the latter, twice in two separate shows), she is expected to once again showcase her serious skills in Iron Fist and The Defenders.
8. Colleen Wing
Jessica Henwick will originate her role as Colleen Wing in 2017’s Iron Fist. The owner of her own martial arts dojo in New York City, the character will be an essential ally to Danny Rand in the upcoming series. In the comics, she also has a strong link to Misty Knight, befriending the police officer and starting a private investigation agency with her. Perhaps the two will cross paths in The Defenders. Stay tuned to find out.
The eight-episode freshman season of The Defenders is set to premiere on August 18, 2017.
