Tomi Lahren may be young, but she’s managed to stir up a lot of controversy over the last year. And now, she’s joined the ranks of Fox News as a contributor.
The conservative commentator and self-professed “girl who eviscerated Obama,” Lahren has taken her place amongst the similarly minded — and has already made headlines. Let’s take a quick look at seven of her ill-fated beginnings at Fox, and some of her other past statements (she keeps coming back to No. 6).
1. Her Fox debut
On Aug. 30, Lahren announced her new position and her first appearance that night on Hannity. But it seems she didn’t make the powerful entrance she was hoping to.
Ken Tucker at Yahoo TV called her “a dud,” remarking that her debate with Geraldo Rivera about Hillary Clinton’s email server painted her as “a jabbering head,” and suggested that she “made it all about Tomi.”
She was on the show again on Sept. 6, but apparently didn’t say much of note, as no outlets outside of Fox reported on it.

2. On immigration
We are indeed a nation of immigrants. We are also a nation of laws. Respect our laws and we welcome you. If not, bye. #DACA

Lahren fell in line with President Trump when she tweeted on Sept. 6, “We are indeed a nation of immigrants. We are also a nation of laws. Respect our laws and we welcome you. If not, bye” in regard to the repeal of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). But the next day, journalist and self-professed “avid genealogist” Jennifer Mendelsohn pointed out the blatant hypocrisy in her statement.
Mendelsohn did some research and discovered that Lahren’s great-great grandfather, Constantin Dietrich, was on trial for forgery in the early 1900s for — get this — falsifying naturalization documents and altering his date of immigration. Many outlets jumped on this, pointing out the irony that Lahren continues to fire off about immigrating “the right way” when her own ancestors weren’t innocent on this front.

3. She benefits from the Affordable Care Act
Lahren’s hypocrisy extends to other issues as well. At Politicon in July, she made the news for one ironic comment made to Chelsea Handler during their debate.
After insulting what she calls the “death spiral” of Obamacare, Lahren admitted to the crowd that due to her age (24 at the time), she’s still on her parent’s insurance — a stipulation put in place by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). In other words, she’s benefitting from the very act that she’s disparaging.

4. She was previously fired
Lahren got her start straight out of college, eventually becoming known for her show on TheBlaze. But she lost this job in a surprising turn of events in March 2017.
While appearing on The View, Lahren confessed that she leans left on one specific issue: abortion. She said, “I can’t sit here and be a hypocrite and say I’m for limited government, but I think the government should decide what women do with their bodies,” appearing to take a pro-choice stance.
Shortly after, she was “banned permanently” from the network.
Next: She apparently doesn’t see color, but spends a lot of time saying she’s not racist.
5. On Black Lives Matter
Liberal comedians and conservative pundits often go head-to-head. When Lahren appeared on The Daily Show With Trevor Noah in late 2016, it wasn’t surprising how things went down.
Noah pointed out that Lahren “has to spend a lot of time saying, ‘I’m not racist.’” She followed up with disparaging remarks about Black Lives Matter, saying things like, “I don’t see color.” He especially called her out for a previous comment in which she said, “Black Lives Matter is the new KKK.”

6. On Colin Kaepernick

Lahren, like many others in her position, has a few points she continuously comes back to. Among them is her displeasure with Colin Kaepernick, an NFL player who became famous last year when he refused to stand for the national anthem, due to the country’s mistreatment of those involved in the Black Lives Matter movement.
On Noah’s show, Lahren spoke out, saying that he was “disrespect[ing] our flag and our anthem.” A year later, the issue is still being discussed, and Lahren still chooses to chime in, sharing tweets like the one above about Marcus Peters, who similarly chose not to stand.

7. Her future
Thanks for watching our inaugural Snowflake Awards. Sadly, the Iranian apologist Asghar Farhadi wasn't nominated this year but not to worry, I have some "Final Thoughts" for him and the rest of the Hollywood elitists tonight. You know where to find them! #TeamTomi #oscars2017 #SnowflakeAwards #TheFlakies
What does the future hold for Lahren? Right now, it looks like she’s taking a backseat to her fellow Fox contributors, but this is only the beginning.
One thing is certain: As long as she can, she’ll continue to milk her brand for all it’s worth. Lahren’s Team Tomi website (with its poor grammar) is just a retail site with three (currently unavailable) items, all featuring a remark she once made, “Stay Triggered Snowflakes.”
