The Duggars Just Told Their Instagram Followers Their Fans Still Pray for Josie

We’ve been keeping up with the Duggars since Jim Bob and Michelle first brought their huge family into the spotlight. And while it’s their adult children, like Jessa, Jana, and Jill, are garnering the most attention, we can’t forget there are plenty of Jim Bob and Michelle’s kids who are still under the age of 18. And the youngest of their 19 children is Josie, who just turned 10.

The Duggar Family Instagram wished Josie a happy 10th birthday on Dec. 10. And we’ve been keeping up with the little one since she was born back in 2009. The Duggars noted within their birthday Instagram message that their fans are still praying for Josie, however. Here’s what they wrote.

Josie Duggar was born 3 months prematurely

Jim Bob and Michelle are known for having a ton of kids, and Josie was the 19th and final baby born in the family. It wasn’t an easy delivery, however. While the Duggars may love children, they’re also well-known for having birth complications, and in some cases, near-death experiences for both the parent and child. And Josie was no different.

People reports Josie was born three months prematurely and weighed just 1 pound, 6 ounces at birth. The reason for the early birth was due to Michelle developing preeclampsia during pregnancy. And the outcome didn’t look good for baby Josie, as eight days after she was born, her bowel perforated.

Thankfully, doctors were able to heal Josie without operating — but her life still hung in the balance. “Josie is walking a daily tightrope to keep her vitals stable and the nurses and the whole team here has been wonderful,” Dr. Robert Arrington told People.

Fans have worried about Josie’s health and development since her birth

After Josie’s miraculous recovery post-birth, she’s thrived. But the Duggars have still noted that Josie’s had some troubling health woes. Back in 2015, the little girl had a seizure while sitting with older siblings James and Jana. Later, it was revealed that this was far from Josie’s first seizure. In fact, the youngest Duggar had already gone through four or five seizures from the time she was 5 years old.

As Michelle said, “One of the little glitches for Josie is that if she runs a fever, she does have the tendency to have febrile seizures.”

Aside from that, fans have also worried that Josie might be developmentally delayed. In Touch Weekly reports a friend of the Duggars showed Josie finishing up her schoolwork, but Reddit users noted the work looked to be a lower level than where Josie should’ve been.

“I feel it’s reasonable to think that she might have special education needs. If so, the Duggars won’t know how to change the education curriculum to suit Josie’s needs,” one Reddit user stated.

The Duggar Family Instagram said their followers pray for Josie

It seems many Duggar fans might still be praying for Josie. “Every child is a miracle, but Josie is one we give special thanks to God for today!! She turns 10 on December 10th, and we are so grateful for her life,” the Duggars captioned their Instagram post of the birthday celebration. They then added, “We still hear from so many of you how you have prayed for her since birth and it is very humbling! Thank you! We know God has great plans for this little girl.”

Fans echoed this sentiment in the comments of the post, too.

“In middle school we had a list of names that we could add to of people who needed prayers, mostly for healing. I remember the day I went up and wrote ‘Josie Brooklyn’ on that paper, and how we would read that list every morning,” one fan commented.

“Seems like yesterday that Jana was sobbing as she looked at her. God is certainly good!” another added.

We’re happy to hear that Josie is doing well. Happy birthday, Josie!
