‘The Expendables’ Sylvester Stallone Confirms Spinoff Movie Films in October

The Expendables movie, written and directed by Sylvester Stallone, brought together some of Hollywood’s most well-known action stars in a new popular franchise. The movies pay tribute to films from the 80s and 90s. After the success of the sequel and third installment, there were talks of creating a spinoff with no set details. Stallone recently confirmed on social media that the spinoff is set to film in October and has a working title.

‘The Expendables’ are a group of mercenaries for hire

The 2010 movie centered around ex-military mercenaries hired to take on risky and covert operations led by Barney Ross (Stallone). Stallone brought together well-known action stars like Jason Statham, Jet Li, Wesley Snipes, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, and even Jean-Claude Van Damme.

In the first installment, Ross and his team are hired to overthrow a Latin dictator to find out later he was a mere puppet. The real enemy was an ex-CIA agent who wants to keep the drug cartel money that funds the CIA. Ross and his team decide to solve the mission their way with the help of the dictator’s daughter while trying to help the locals. The following movie installments follow a similar pattern of the team taking on a new covert mission with returning members and new faces.

According to Screen Rant, news of The Expendables spinoff project was confirmed by Stallone when he posted on Instagram yesterday. Stallone posted a photo of a fan’s detailed portrait tattoo of his Barney Ross character. The caption drops the news that Stallone is heading off to shoot the spinoff project set to start filming in October.

The post also reveals the project to have a working title, Chrismas Story. But details of the project’s storyline are still unclear. Based on the working title, it could center around Jason Statham’s franchise character. Statham plays the role of Lee Christmas, Ross’s teammate and longtime friend. Rumors of a Stathom spinoff have been reported before but not confirmed.

It is unclear if The Expendables 4 and the spinoff occur as the same project as Statham previously showed off the ring he designed for the fourth movie. Fans of the franchise will have to wait and see if the franchise’s recurring cast members will take part in the project or introduce new characters.

Lee Christmas is a vital part of The Expendables team as an expert in hand-to-hand combat with extensive knife training. Action star Jason Statham has played the character in all three movies alongside Stallone. According to the movies, Lee Christmas is a former SAS (Special Air Service) agent. His former profession explains why he is always in charge of flying the team to their destination.

In the first movie, Christmas is known for wearing his heart on his sleeve when it comes to love. He has an ongoing relationship throughout the franchise with some hiccups due to his mercenary life. Christmas can also be deadly if provoked or when needing to protect the people he cares about. Throughout the movie sequels, the character is loyal to the core and stands by Ross’s moral decisions during missions.
