The First Thing Meghan Markle Did When She Moved into Nottingham Cottage with Prince Harry

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took the big step in their relationship to move in together, like any other couple sharing the same space, royal or not, it meant making compromises for one another. Keep reading to learn what Markle did upon moving in with Prince Harry and how she encouraged him to ditch his bad habits.

What Markle did when she moved in

When Markle moved into Nottingham Cottage with Prince Harry she reportedly tossed all the junk food. She scoured his cupboards and refrigerator for any processed food and threw away any and all of it.

“Meghan completely changed Harry’s diet,” a source told the Daily Mail. Harry used to eat pizza and burgers but after meeting Markle he changed his diet, swapping the fatty foods for green juice and fruit smoothies.

Got in shape for wedding

In preparation for his wedding to Markle in May 2018, Prince Harry worked with the royal family’s nutritional adviser, Gabriela Peacock, who is also the founder of GP Nutrition. He used Peacock’s “Clean Me” supplements to boost his immune system and promote healthy skin. The prince also started eating quinoa and kale and going to the gym.

Prince Harry’s friends were quick to notice a change in him because before Markle he wasn’t as active or health-conscious.

In her book, Harry: Life, Loss, and Love, author Katie Nicholl spoke with a friend of Prince Harry’s about his health kick. The prince had reportedly gained a newfound interest in yoga and his friends teased him.

“We all ribbed him a bit because he suddenly got super healthy. It was obviously dating Meghan that kicked off his health drive,” one of Prince Harry’s friends told Nicholl.

Markle has been practicing yoga for years. Her mother, Doria Ragland, is a yoga instructor so Markle knows her way around a yoga mat. It makes sense that Prince Harry tried yoga because his now wife and mother-in-law love the practice.

In addition to picking up new healthy habits, Markle helped Prince Harry ditch the bad habit of smoking cigarettes. The prince used to smoke cigarettes regularly but promised Markle that he wouldn’t smoke in the house which eventually led to him quitting the habit altogether.

Markle ‘beautiful influence on Harry’

Markle’s influence on Prince Harry, from his health to his relationships, have been evident.

“Meghan is a beautiful influence on Harry. They both worked hard to be the healthiest they could be before they got married,” a royal insider told People. “They both felt amazing leading up to the wedding. And he couldn’t have done it without her support.”

Not only did Markle help her now-husband get in shape before their wedding but she encouraged him to strengthen his relationship with his father, Prince Charles.

“Meghan met Charles and was bowled over by his charm,” a family source told the Daily Mail. “She told Harry he was wonderful: welcoming, warm, hard-working kind and stable…She made it clear that he should appreciate him and bond more.”
