Tom Brady was born on August 3, 1977, which means that he turned 42 years old in 2019.

Brady has played his whole entire NFL career with the New England Patriots. He joined the team in 2000 at the age of 23, and over the years, he went from being a less-than-impressive prospect to one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

While Brady is no doubt a legend, his age today does put him at a disadvantage compared to many of the younger players, which is why it is imperative that he stays in good shape.

He recently said: “Football is a contact sport. I wouldn’t say I’m a spring chicken anymore. I’m trying to just feel as great as I can and we’ll see how it goes tomorrow.”

A part of Brady’s health routine is simply starting his morning right. He wakes up at 6 a.m. every day (he usually sleeps at 8:30 p.m. the night before).

After waking up, Brady drinks about 20 ounces of water with electrolytes. Electrolytes-infused water can be beneficial to athletes as it assists with muscle movements and helps prevent dehydration throughout the day.

After his morning routine, Brady works out for around 40 minutes. He uses resistance bands instead of weights.

Brady’s trainer, Alex Guerrero, told Men’s Journal that weights are not good for the type of training that Brady requires. “You can’t do weighted squats one day and then the next expect to be fast and nimble in the other direction.”

During his workout, Brady re-hydrates with more electrolytes-infused water. He usually drinks around 112 ounces of water daily, which is half of his body weight in ounces.

Tom Brady drinks a lot of protein shakes

Throughout the day, Brady also consumes a lot of protein shakes. He drinks one in the morning before his workout and another after training. Much of his shakes consist of plant-based protein, fruits, almond milk, and nuts.

In total, Brady usually drinks about four or five protein shakes a day.

When Brady sits down to eat his meals, you will not find him eating greasy, fast food. Instead, he eats very balanced, nutritious food that will give him energy as an athlete.

Brady tends to eat a lot of vegetables because they contain fiber and enzymes that are beneficial for a football player like him. He also eats some animal-based protein like fish, though he has shared that he often tries to stay away from meat before a big game.

While Brady’s diet can seem strict, the quarterback admits that he does indulge in cravings here and there.

“I have a friend who freaks out if it’s not the most organic this or that, and I’m like, ‘That stress is going to harm you way more than eating that chip is,'” Brady shared with Men’s Health. “If I’m craving bacon, I have a piece. Same with pizza. You should never restrict what you really want. We’re humans, here for one life.”
