‘The Flash’: Meet the 3 New Villains He’ll Battle Next

The Flash has plenty more battles coming his way. The CW has just released an extended glimpse of a few of the villainous characters still set to make an appearance this season and from the looks of it, it’ll be quite a busy month in the heroic life of Barry Allen (Grant Gustin).

The show is over halfway through its 23-episode freshman season. So far, viewers have seen the superhero face off against plenty of bad guys, including former childhood bully-turned-metahuman Tony Woodward (aka Girder), Danton Black (known as Multiplex), former S.T.A.R Labs employee Hartley Rathaway (the Pied Piper), and Leonard Snart (a.k.a. Captain Cold). But his work is still far from far over. As seen in the newly released teaser, Allen will combat against three new villains and two returning ones over the next few episodes.

First up is the Mark Mardon, also known as the Weather Wizard (played by Liam McIntyre). As his alter ego name implies, Mardon has the ability to control the elements, from inciting lighting to causing ocean swells. He also has a personal vendetta against The Flash and in particular, Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), who ended up shooting and killing the villain’s brother Clyde Mardon (Chad Rook) in the series pilot. Now, he’s in town looking to do some damage and find the man responsible for his sibling’s death. The character will make his debut on the March 17 episode, which marks the newest installment of the show following a month-long hiatus.

A week later, on March 24, Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold will make his return, this time with his sister Lisa Snart (played by Peyton List) in tow. As fans of the comics know, Lisa is a world class skater who later becomes known as Golden Glider. Though she hasn’t actually appeared on the series physically before, an unseen Lisa helped break her brother and his partner Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) out of police custody back in episode 10. Now, she’s anxious to prove to her brother that she’s got what it takes to be in his criminal gang. As the trailer shows, her weapon of choice will be a special firearm, similar to that of her sibling and Heat Wave.

But perhaps the most notable villain soon set to take The Flash by storm is James Jesse a.k.a The Trickster. Mark Hamill will reprise his role as the trick-obsessed villain, which he originated over 20 years ago on the 1990 Flash series. So how exactly will he make his long-awaited comeback? The character will be temporarily taken out of prison in order to assist the Central City Police Department in capturing a copycat Trickster (played by Devon Gray), seen at the beginning of the teaser. But while James Jesse may have been out of the game for a while, it seems he’s been using that time to come up with “the perfect trick” – which means his days of causing mayhem are probably not entirely over.

Though Allen has plenty to deal with, these new criminals still won’t deter him from his main mission of finding his mom’s killer, the Man in the Yellow suit. In addition to giving viewers their first look at the latest villains, the clip teases a huge time travel twist coming in the final five minutes of the March 17 episode — one that will “change the course of history.”

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on The CW.
