‘The Good Place’: The Highest-Paid Actors on the Show
NBC’s afterlife comedy The Good Place is buzzy, quirky, and full of hilarious quips about the human experience and what it means to be good versus evil. On the series, Kristen Bell stars as Eleanor Shellstrop — a dreadful woman who after being run over by shopping carts on Earth ends up in The Good Place, or heaven. However, since she was pretty much a she-devil, Eleanor realizes that she’s been accidentally granted access to The Good Place when she should be in The Bad Place. Determined to fix her moral failings, Eleanor enlists the help of Michael (Ted Danson) one of The Good Place’s architects, — her “soul mate” Chidi Anagonye (William Jackson Harper) and two other Good Place friends, the poised and polished Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and the dimwitted Jason (Manny Jacinto), a DJ from Jacksonville, Florida.
Janet (D’Arcy Carden), The Good Place’s live-action version of Siri or Alexa, is also on hand to help the residents. So who are the highest paid actors on the series?
Ted Danson is the highest paid actor on The Good Place
With years of experience under his belt in both film and television, including his work on Cheers, Becker, and Curb Your Enthusiasm, it’s obvious why Danson is the highest paid actor the NBC comedy. The legend takes home a paycheck of $225,000 per episode. He makes so much that there is a significant pay gap between himself and Kristen Bell who is the second highest paid actor on the sitcom. Jameela Jamil told Radio 5 in the U.K., “There is a pay gap between Ted Danson and Kristen Bell. But he was in Cheers; he is a national treasure. It’s not just about gender, that’s about what you bring to the table.”
Kristen Bell makes $125,000 per episode
Though Bell doesn’t quite have as many years of experience as Danson does under his belt, she has certainly been a staple in the entertainment industry for years. Starting with Veronica Mars and then, of course, Gossip Girl and the explosion that was Frozen—Bell might make $100,000 less than Danson on The Good Place, but we don’t think $125,000 per episode is anything to sneeze at.
What does everyone else make?
Though we’re not exactly sure what the rest of the cast, including William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, Manny Jacinto, and D’Arcy Carden make per episode, we assume that it’s about $60,000 per episode which is typical for ensemble actors to make. Of course, as The Good Place continues to be renewed and win accolades, the actors can request more pay in their contracts. Either way, Jamil has said that her co-stars have always had an open dialogue about compensation so that everything is transparent and no one is being underpaid.
She told Radio 5 U.K that she felt “very comfortable” asking her co-stars what they earn. For Jamil in particular, The Good Place was her first audition ever, and she’s used the show as a way to launch her career and talk about women’s rights. She’s also watched Danson closely and used his example to become a better actor. She explained, “I had to learn how to act from Ted Danson. I’m a fast learner, and I have an amazing group of people around me. I’m not De Niro, but I’m getting there.”
