The Internet Begs Ben Stiller To Reprise His Role As Michael Cohen for ‘SNL’

Saturday Night Live has parodied just about everyone in the Trump administration. From Kate McKinnon’s hilarious version of Rudy Giuliani to the now iconic version of Donal Trump himself by Alec Baldwin. No one has escaped being featured on SNL.

While most of these characters are spot on, including Vladimir Putin to Melania Trump, (the real) Michael Cohen‘s testimony solidified one featured character on the show: Ben Stiller as Michael Cohen.

Stiller’s surprise appearance on SNL as Cohen since last year has prompted several other guest spots during cold opens on the show. And while he has been praised for his funny version of Cohen, Cohen’s actual testimony has the Internet begging for more.

This is what started it all

Baldwin has produced a thunder of laughs and applause when he appears on SNL as Trump. So when Cohen was arrested and brought into the fray, SNL couldn’t resist. The cold open that wove both Robert De Niro as Robert Mueller and Stiller as Cohen was not only hilarious but flicked at the actors’ famous film Meet the Parents.

Mueller (De Niro) gives Cohen (Stiller) a lie detector test. Some of the same lines from Meet the Parents are delivered and comedically apply to the current situation too. “You ever use a lie detector before,” fake Mueller asks fake Cohen. The audience laughs as De Niro’s character gives Stiller’s character a lie detector test in the film.

Of course, the SNL writers couldn’t help but drop in a “pee pee” tape joke too. But they cleverly wove Meet the Parents lines into how Mueller might grill Cohen. They also threw in the whole “milking the cat” line into the mix.

Stiller has become ‘SNL’s’ Michael Cohen

Since the initial appearance in April, Stiller has made additional guest appearances as Cohen in other cold opens. Stiller came back for a December appearance where Baldwin’s Trump says to Stiller’s Cohen, “I’m sad you’re going to prison, Michael. You were like a son to me,” The New York Times recounts.

“Then why’d you make me do so much illegal stuff?” Stiller as Cohen asks. Trump/Baldwin replies, “Because you were like a son to me.”

Fans crave more Stiller/Cohen

When Cohen launched into his live testimony, fans couldn’t take it. “Ben Stiller does a better Michael Cohen impression than Michael Cohen,” one person astutely tweeted.

Every time Cohen uttered the words, “Mr. Trump” fans couldn’t help but conjure up Stiller doing Cohen on SNL. “I can’t hear Michael Cohen’s voice without thinking of Ben Stiller,” another person tweeted.

Fans can’t wait to see what happens this Saturday night. “Very curious to see how SNL turns this into a 9 minute sketch,” one person wrote. “Which cast member plays Michael Cohen? Ben Stiller?” Meanwhile, Stiller has been quiet on Twitter. But of course, (the real) Trump tweeted, “Michael Cohen was one of many lawyers who represented me (unfortunately). He had other clients also. He was just disbarred by the State Supreme Court for lying & fraud. He did bad things unrelated to Trump. He is lying in order to reduce his prison time. Using Crooked’s lawyer!”
