While it took years and many heart to heart conversations for these brothers to even consider being a band again, the idea to reunite actually came from an unlikely source.

It all started with a tweet

2019 will be a year many of us will never forget because it was the year The Jonas Brothers reunited.

6 years after the band confirmed their split, the JoBros made their official return to music, all while showcasing their improved relationship as brothers.

Earlier this year, fans were given a look into Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas’ unexpected split and comeback in their Amazon Prime Video documentary Chasing Happiness.

During the film, they went into detail about their rise and fall as a band and even shared how their bond as brothers suffered at the hands of their fame.

While it took working on their communication skills as well as a brutally honest drinking game to help them get back together as a band, The Jonas Brothers recently revealed that these weren’t the only things that persuaded them to reunite.

During a recent sold-out performance at the Grammy Museum for a crowd of 200, the brothers revealed the untold story of what initially prompted them to consider getting back together.

“It started as a seed planted in my brain by a few Twitter comments,” Nick Jonas revealed. “There was a few comments about how badly someone wished we would come back together. And they were singing ‘Year 3000’ which made me think, this is a song that in our last couple years in the first iteration weren’t playing.”

The “Jealous” singer continued, “we were so at odds with our authentic selves and our creative center and what made us who we are, which I think are fun-loving, don’t take ourselves too seriously guys, that we had started to let our insecurities lead the conversation, so we stopped playing the songs that some of our fans loved so much.”

We can all thank ‘a group of college-aged guys’

Although the idea of reunited had crossed their minds, it wasn’t the band started coming across fan tweets that they actually started to consider working together again.

With so many old and new fans taking to social media urging the JoBros to make their comeback as a band, conversations surrounding a possible reunion soon began.

“The [tweets] said, ‘I wished they would come back so I could go see [‘Year 3000’] live,'” Nick Jonas revealed. “I started to think about that quite a bit that maybe there’s a whole new group of fans who actually were embarrassed to like the Brothers at a certain point in their life and now can actually just enjoy it because as it happens for all of us, the things we were embarrassed about when we were younger become the things we love about ourselves when we’re older. It was a beautiful thing to see.”

Although it took Joe Jonas a while to agree to the idea of reuniting, Kevin Jonas was onboard from the very start. “I was all in,” the father of two confessed. “We broke up as a band and about two months later me and Danielle had our first daughter Alena. She never experienced the Jonas Brothers. At this point she’s probably three or four years old when we’re having this conversation.”

Jonas has been open about his desire for his two young daughters to see him perform onstage and doing what he loves. “I just looked down at her sitting in the room while we were having this conversation and it was one of those moments of I need her to experience that,” he continued. “If it’s not for me, it’s for them. That was the moment I realized how badly I did miss it. Because there was hurt there but I also just missed my brothers.”

Although they considered the idea of reuniting, it wasn’t until the brothers started filming Chasing Happiness when they finally made their decision.

“The conversations were funny, it’s kind of sad, and it’s really interesting,” Joe Jonas said. “Let’s just tell the story of the Jonas Brothers for people and maybe be a bit more honest than we were in the past. That process was really healing, and that’s really how we all came around to the idea of actually doing it again.”

While this comeback was definitely a work in progress, it finally happened and fans couldn’t be more thrilled that the Jonas Brothers are back together again.
