At the time that this article was published, it isn’t officially known if there will be a season 5 of The Last Kingdom. There is hope for the future though if a recent interview is anything to go on. RadioTimes.com recently spoke with the executive producer for the series, Nigel Marchant, along with Alexander Dreymon who plays Uhtred, and Eliza Butterworth who plays Lady Aelswith. They took part in a live Q&A session.

Marchant said they are “hopeful” when asked about a new season to come in the future. “We’re very hopeful, we’d love to do a season five,” Marchant explained. “I think all of us want to tell a story and it’s always much more satisfying if you can tell a complete story throughout all the various seasons. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we really do love making it.”

It sounds like season 5 could really happen and it’s something fans are looking forward to.

Dreymon was asked what he’d like to see happen in season 5, and he gave an excellent answer and one that all fans are hoping will eventually happen one day.

“I’d like to get Bebbanburg,” Dreymon said. “It’s about time.”

In season 4, Uhtred attempts to take back Bebbanburg from his uncle, but things don’t go as planned at all. He leads a raid on Bebbanburg when he thinks his Uncle Aelfric (Joseph Millson) has lost many of his men. However, he doesn’t know that his cousin, Wihtgar (Ossian Perret) has returned home and garrisoned his men in Bebbanburg. Uhtred does manage to get inside the walls, but Wihtgar just kills his father Aelfric right in front of Uhtred.

To make things even worse, Wihtgar tries to shoot Uhtred’s son, but Father Beocca (Ian Hart) gets in the way and dies from the arrow shot. The loss is too much for Uhtred, who is ready to die right then and there in the midst of fighting. But Finan (Mark Rowley) convinces him to go and live on to see another day.

Even when they have escaped, Uhtred is eager to return to reclaim Beocca’s body. Finan again convinces him not to and to keep going because it’s what Beocca would have wanted.

Fans would love to see Uhtred seated in Bebbanburg finally. There’s a good possibility that if the series continues, fans will get to see that impossible sight one day. Uhtred deserves to take his home back, and viewers want to see nothing more than just that. Even Alexander Dreymon is hoping that day will come, possibly as soon as season 5.

Hopefully fans will see Uhtred take his rightful place in Bebbanburg in the future. We’ll keep you updated on all the latest having to do with The Last Kingdom.
