The Last Thing Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Need Is Their Own Lifetime Movie

Meghan Markle’s first year of being a royal has been filled with all kinds of ups and downs. From confronting problematic family members to dealing with one negative rumor after another, it definitely has not been easy to be the Duchess of Sussex.

However, Meghan and Prince Harry welcomed their first child a month ago and officially moved into their new home. It seems like the couple is ready to put everything behind them and focus on the next step of their life together.

That hasn’t been possible, however, when reminders of what they went through keep popping up. One such example is the new movie based on Meghan and Harry’s relationship.

‘Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal’ recently aired on Lifetime

Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal is the sequel to the film that came out a year ago, Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance. The first film focused more on how Harry and Meghan met, and what their days as boyfriend and girlfriend were like. The second movie details the wedding, as well as the couple’s first year of marriage, which, of course, includes a lot of the drama that went on in their private lives and in the media.

In a preview released by Lifetime, Meghan (played by Tiffany Smith) and Harry (played by Charlie Field) can be seen confronting her father, Thomas, over the phone about his staged paparazzi photos before their wedding as well as the fact that he never told his family about his heart attack. After a tearful argument, Thomas tells them: “Maybe it would be better for you guys if I was dead. That way you could pretend to be sad.”

Other parts of Meghan’s first year that the movie digs into include allegations of her being disliked by royal staff members, her mean nicknames being leaked to the press, and her lack of relationship with Kate Middleton.

Meghan Markle’s father called the movie ‘dumb’

The real Thomas Markle, who is known for speaking to press, recently shared with TMZ that he does not like the way the Lifetime film portrays his and Meghan’s relationship.

TMZ reported that he “feels personally attacked by the network” and that, contrary to what the film shows, he did not bail on Meghan and Harry’s wedding because of an argument over the paparazzi photos. Rather, he had heart surgery that made it hard for him to walk his daughter down the aisle. Thomas also allegedly said that the movie is “dumb fiction.”

Meghan Markle has been trying to move on and leave her family drama behind

We now know that Thomas is clearly not a fan of Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal, but it’s likely that Meghan and Harry would not like it either.

According to Katie Nicholl, a royal expert, Meghan has been “incredibly hurt and disappointed by how many members of her family have behaved, but from what I am told, she’s moved on.”

With a new baby to take care of, it’s understandable that Meghan and Harry just want to focus on making the future better for them and their son. They recently moved outside of London to get more privacy and also created an Instagram page to control their image a bit more. As such, the way that Lifetime is digging up the drama of the past for people to revisit and talk about is probably not something that the couple appreciates.

However, it’s likely that this is all because the media and public both have a fascination with Meghan Markle since she is new to the royal family. Kate also was one of the most talked about royals when she first married Prince William — and she had a Lifetime movie made about her as well — though, after several years of being the Duchess of Cambridge, it’s clear that people have moved on from obsessing over her every move. It’s possible that after a while, Meghan and Harry could have a more quiet life when the press sees nothing new to report on.
