‘The Magicians’ Season 5 Premiere Date and Full Trailer
Are you still heartbroken, shocked, or confused about the loss of Quentin Coldwater? You’re not alone, because so are his friends in Fillory and at Brakebills. When season five of The Magicians arrives on Syfy, the gang will still be processing his death while trying to figure out their latest apocalypse-level problem. The network has finally revealed the premiere date, giving fans time to prepare for the aftermath of Quentin’s death and the return of magic.
Season 5 trailer drops, and there’s too much g.d. magic
It’s the trailer we’ve all been waiting for and it reveals much more than the teaser that was recently released. Syfy shared a new clip and you see Alice struggling to move on from Quentin, Margo waging a battle (with a battle axe), Eliot on a quest, furious fairies, the whole crew trying to save the world again, and a kraken. Seriously, where else would you find such a mythical beast?
It looks like everyone can cast and Penny’s traveling powers are more than intact, but this season will take these friends everywhere. Fortunately, jokes and love sequences will help to lighten the grief and tension.
Fillory has been cast 300 years into the future and its royal family is not who it used to be. Fen doesn’t look like she’s on the same side as Margo. How will power be balanced out across these multiple worlds when the new adventures begin?
What to expect in season 5 of ‘The Magicians’
At the conclusion of season four, magic had returned to Earth, time sped up in Fillory, and the core group of friends was trying their best to move on in their own ways. But magic is guaranteed to be different heading into season five. The pendulum is swinging in the opposite direction after the drought and a surplus will spiral things out of control.
In April, showrunners Sera Gamble and John McNamara spoke with Entertainment Weekly about what’s to come in season five, and McNamara summed it up this way: “The analogy that I like to use is: In season 5, there’s more magic on Earth than there was cocaine on Wall Street in the ‘80s.”
Combine that with the footage shared during Comic-Con this year that showed Julia being told by a Fillorian pig-man that the fate of all worlds hung in the balance, and depending on the help of a hero. He was looking for Quentin, but upon learning about his death, he rebuffed Julia’s offer to intervene because she’s a woman. Not cool but we can’t wait to see where this goes.
The series returns this winter
Syfy is doing a wonderful job at gearing fans up for the return of The Magicians. You already knew it would be coming this winter, and the official date is Jan. 15 at 10 p.m. Look out for 13 weekly episodes when things kick off next month, and have your tissues ready. Something tells us there could be some tear-jerking Quentin moments.
