Did Boba Fett make an appearance in Chapter 1 of ‘The Mandalorian’?

Favreau knows that there are many fan theories concerning the role Fett may play (if any) in the new series. Favreau has admitted that he likes to explore fan theories and try to figure out what fans will assume about the show; that way he can ensure some genuine surprises. This certainly explains the surprise ending at the end of Chapter 1 (the first episode).

18 minutes and 31 seconds into chapter one, there is a bounty hunter in the background who is wearing armor very similar to the armor worn by Fett- green, orange, and red. The unknown bounty hunter resembles the fan-favorite character, Fett.

The mysterious bounty hunter may have been shown in the darkened background which makes it difficult to positively identify the character.

How likely is it that Fett could have a role in ‘The Mandalorian’?

Fett’s last confirmed appearance in the official Star Wars canon was in The Return of the Jedi. The most recent confirmed appearance of Fett showed the bounty hunter in a dangerous predicament — dropped into a Sarlacc pit.

While it’s easy to assume that Fett succumbed to death in the Sarlacc pit, his death has not been confirmed. It is possible that Fett may have survived. After all, he was wearing strong Mandalorian armor.

Fett makes several appearances in various Star Wars books after his ordeal with the Sarlacc; however, none of those instances are part of the official Star Wars canon.

Favreau has neither confirmed nor denied that Fett will be a part of The Mandalorian. Earlier in the year, at a D23 event, Favreau said to Good Morning America, “Boba Fett is not one of the all-new original characters. There’s a 30-year stretch of story time that hasn’t been explored at all, except in the extended universe.”

As True as that may be, Favreau didn’t actually reveal much concerning Fett since Fett would be considered a returning character, not a new character, if he appears on the show.

Favreau has been cautious not to confirm any theories about the true identity of The Mandalorian.

How does Pascal’s Mandalorian compare to Fett?

It’s worth noting that Fett’s popularity hasn’t gone unnoticed by Favreau and George Lucas. The lead Mandalorian in the new show incorporates many of Fett’s most-liked attributes. Both characters have secret identities, preferring to keep their helmets on and keep speech to a minimum. They also utilize amban phase-pulse blasters.

Fett was a clone of Jango Fett, and he emulated the traits of a Mandalorian. True Mandalorians serve as bounty hunters or Mercenaries and hail from the planet Mandalore.  Pascal’s Mandalorian is believed to have been a youngling on Mandalore and is, therefore, an authentic Mandalorian bounty hunter.

Pascal described the actions and intentions of the Mandalorian, “Ultimately he wants to do the right thing. But his duties could very much be in conflict with his destiny and doing the right thing has many faces.”

Even if Fett doesn’t make any confirmed appearance in The Mandalorian, the show is undoubtedly off to a great start! Fans, new and old, are intrigued by the premise of the show and eagerly await the next chapters in the series.
