‘The Mandalorian’: When Is Season 2 on Disney+ and When Can You Buy Baby Yoda Toys?
The Mandalorian premiered with the launch of Disney+ on November 12, 2019. Every week, the adventures of The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) kept subscribers captivated, and the introduction of Baby Yoda (The Child) made it a phenomenon. In his Feb. 4, 2020 earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed some new information about The Mandalorian.
Disney+ already renewed The Mandalorian for a second season and they were already in production when Jon Favreau spoke about the show’s debut. Now Iger reveals when you can see Season 2, and when you can take home more Baby Yodas.
‘The Mandalorian’ so far
The Mandalorian introduced a bounty hunter in the immediate aftermath of the fall of the Empire at the end of Return of the Jedi. While defeating the Empire was good news for the rebels, it has left the economy of the galaxy far, far away rather unstable. There aren’t many legitimate contracts for Mando so he’ll take whatever Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) can get him.
That bounty ended up being The Child, whom most fans lovingly call Baby Yoda. Mando tried to leave The Child safely on another planet, but soon realized other bounty hunters would never stop coming to collect. He didn’t deliver the Kid to The Client (Werner Herzog), and flew off for new adventures after facing Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito).
Need more Baby Yoda toys? Bob Iger’s got you!
As soon as Disney+ subscribers saw Baby Yoda, they wanted toys they could take home and cuddle. Yet there were no Baby Yoda toys to buy. It would seem like Disney left a lot of money on the table, especially since The Mandalorian came out right at the prime holiday buying season.
However, had toys been in production in time to release with the show, news of Baby Yoda toys would have gotten out before the show premiered. Disney chose to keep the show’s secret and hold off on merchandise. That left only two months to make Baby Yoda toys for Christmas. Fortunately, Variety Film and Media Editor Brent Lang reported more are on the way:
‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2 will premiere one month earlier than Season 2
The Mandalorian couldn’t have premiered any earlier in 2019. There was no Disney+ until November 12, so that was the day The Mandalorian premiered with the service. Now that Disney+ is online, it won’t quite be an entire year before Season 2. Spectrum News 13 reporter Ashley Carter reported:
Iger said Season 2 of The Mandalorian would premiere in October of 2020. That’s 11 months from the launch of the first season, and only nine months between the season finale and potential new episodes. Iger did not say which day in October, but the month narrows it down.
Disney+ shows usually launch on Fridays, except for the Tuesday debut of the entire service and the Wednesday, Dec. 18 early episode drop of The Mandalorian before Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premiered. There are five Fridays in October 2020, so Season 2 could premiere as early as Oct. 2 or as late as Oct. 30.
