Excited fans are anxiously waiting to see which celebrities will be behind the masks of the new characters on the second season of The Masked Singer. Behind those flamboyant costumes will be a whole new group of celebrity singers, and both fans and the judges will try to correctly identify who these celebs are. However, the singers aren’t the only celebrities on the show. The judges are celebrities in their own right.

Who is judging ‘The Masked Singer’ season 2?

So, what do we know so far about Season Two’s judges? It seems that Fox doesn’t want to mess too much with its smash hit since the network hasn’t made any changes to the show’s judging panel. Returning judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke will continue guessing at the talent behind the masks.

We do know that several guest judges will participate in the hilarity again this season. Some of the guest judges already scheduled to appear will include last season’s winner “The Monster” T-Pain, Anthony Anderson, Joel McHale, and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

We have to wonder how well the studio audience will handle the seriocomic aspects of the singing competition this season. Will they be so distracted by the ludicrous costumes that they’ll find it hard to concentrate on the quality of the singing? We certainly hope not!

The new ‘Masked Singer’ costumes

Most of the costumes for this season’s singing contestants have been revealed already. They include Butterfly, Eagle, Egg, Flamingo, Fox, Ice Cream, Leopard, Panda, Rottweiler, Skeleton, Thingamajig, and Tree. According to award-winning costume designer Marina Toybina, “We want them to be more playful on stage, like a little party.”

Playful may be the right term. If you think the show is also “Crazy, bonkers, insane, and wacky,” you aren’t alone. Fox has embraced these rather uncomplimentary terms and has even included them in a poster featuring four of the characters from Season Two’s cast!

The talent behind the masks

Unfortunately, we haven’t (yet!) got a clue about the celebrities donning costumes for the upcoming second season. It looks like we’ll have to wait with everyone else for those much-anticipated celebrity clues to start appearing.

Executive producer Craig Plestis compared the clues within the show to a “well-crafted crime novel” and said that it will be a fine balancing act between giving the audience enough clues to make it interesting without revealing too much about the contestants. And the show’s staff needs to craft a full season’s worth of clues for each contestant since they don’t know which one of them will win!

According to Plestis, the hit show’s second season will be even more secretive and security-conscious than the first. He told The Hollywood Reporter, “Security is going to be a lot more stringent in season two. For season one, we were not under the radar for a lot of people, and we still had a lot of security. So we’re really going to have to be on top of our game for season two.”

Fox’s President of Alternative Entertainment Rob Wade reportedly said that this season will be “even more fun, weird, and wonderful than the first.” We can’t wait for it to start! Fortunately, we won’t have very long to wait for Season Three. It’s set to air starting on February 2, 2020 — immediately after the Super Bowl.

Don’t miss the special “super sneak peek” on Sunday, Sep. 15. It will be simulcast on the show’s Twitter account (@MaskedSingerFOX) and T-Pain will be there tweeting live. Listen as the judges and host Nick Cannon reveal the new characters, discuss the show’s impact, and maybe even reveal a few clues! The second season of The Masked Singer will officially debut with a two-hour special on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 8/7c on Fox.
