‘The Masked Singer’: These Are the Celebrities People Think Are Competing on the Show

Fox’s newest musical competition show premiered last night, and it’s quickly on its way to becoming must-see TV. More than 9 million people tuned in to watch the first episode of The Masked Singer, which is the highest debut for an unscripted series in years, according to Deadline.

The deliberately weird show features 12 celebrity contestants. Each person’s identity is concealed behind an elaborate costume, including a peacock, unicorn, and a monster. Pairs of the mystery celebs face-off in a singing contest, and the audience votes to determine who wins. One of the losers is then eliminated by a panel of judges, which includes Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke. The loser then removes their mask to reveal their true identity. (The show is adapted from a hit show in South Korea with a similar format.)

People have lots of theories about who the contestants really are

Naturally, people have a ton of theories about who the contestants on the show really are. We already know the identity of one. Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown (aka the Hippo) was eliminated during the series premiere. His performance of Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative” couldn’t top the Peacock’s rendition of “The Greatest Show” from the movie The Greatest Showman.

But what about the remaining 11 contestants? So far, only six have performed. But the show has given us some clues about who’s behind the masks. Fox says that the disguised celebs have 65 Grammy nominations, 16 multi-Platinum albums, 16 Emmy nominations, nine Broadway shows, four stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and four Super Bowl titles between them. Each contestant also shares clues in interview segments where their voices are disguised.

Twitter’s most popular guesses

We can safely say at least one remaining contestant is a NFL star, since Brown doesn’t have a Super Bowl ring. Many think the Deer could be another famous Steeler, Terry Bradshaw. He’s won multiple championships and fits with several other clues.

Meanwhile, Donny Osmond is emerging as the most popular guess for the person behind the Peacock mask. But some people think it could be Elton John, Neil Patrick Harris, or even Alfonso Ribeiro. (The Peacock mentioned a connection to the King of Pop, and Ribeiro did star in a Pepsi commercial with Michael Jackson. Plus, we know he can dance.)

T-Pain is a popular guess for the Monster, as is Cee Lo Green. Some have suggested the Lion could be Rumer Willis or Khloe Kardashian. (The Lion did say she came from “Hollywood royalty” and that there are “a lot of women in my pride,” so a Kardashian fits.)

The Unicorn, who said she grew up in a rich neighborhood and always wanted to be a singer, might be Tori Spelling. Others think it’s Paris Hilton.

Tune in to Fox next Wednesday, January 9, at 9/8 c to see the next round of masked contestants compete – and discover the identity of one more singer.
