The Most Eye-Opening Stories About Ivanka Trump Straight From Her Childhood Best Friend, Lysandra Ohrstrom

As part of the first family and serving on Donald Trump’s administration, Ivanka Trump is under considerable scrutiny. The scrutiny naturally flows into her personal life and friendships. Recently, one of Ivanka’s childhood best friends, Lysandra Ohrstrom, opened up, sharing eye-opening stories from when she attended the same all-girls school on Manhattan’s Upper East Side as Ivanka Trump. The two were close friends, and growing up with a best friend from the Trump family gave Ohrstrom insight that many people may not know.

Lysandra Ohrstrom’s friendship with Ivanka Trump

According to Lysandra Ohrstrom’s recent Vanity Fair article, her and Ivanka were inseparable throughout most of their teenage years. Although it was not an instant click, the friendship started slowly with the girls only hanging out occasionally at first. The turn into sister-like best friends came during a trip to Paris for a language program before the girls’ freshman year of high school. Their close bond continued for more than a decade with the girls enjoying many trips and adventures together.

Ohrstrom referred to Ivanka as “shamelessly vain, but also fun, loyal, and let’s face it, pretty exciting.” Ivanka had no issues holding back how she felt with Ohrstrom, including with her friend’s Arabic necklace. Ohrstrom wore a necklace with her name written in Arabic, that Ivanka openly hated. She once commented, “How does your Jewish boyfriend feel when you are having sex and that necklace hits him in the face? How can you wear that thing? It just screams, ‘terrorist.'” While Ivanka was always blunt with her friends, she also showed them equal acts of generosity.

Often when Ivanka would need to go shopping, the two girls would stop by Trump Tower to borrow her dad’s credit card. Donald Trump would only acknowledge Ohrstrom was tagging along except to ask if Ivanka was “the prettiest or the most popular girl” in their grade. Jokingly, Ohrstrom replied she was “probably in the top five.”

Trump reportedly made comments about changes in Ohrstrom’s body. Once while Ohrstrom and Ivanka were having lunch with the other Trump siblings, Mr. Trump stopped to say hi when Donald Jr. took a half a sandwich off the girl’s plate. Although Ivanka quickly scolded him for it, Trump insinuated she needed to lose weight by saying his son was “doing her a favor.” He would also congratulate Ohrstrom when she lost weight.

Ohrstrom and Ivanka’s falling out

Ohrstrom and Ivanka had a strong friendship that one would have thought to last for years. However, like many childhood best friends, the two began drifting due to different job paths. While the two kept in touch after their college years and Ohrstrom was one of two maids of honor in Ivanka’s wedding in 2009, their overwhelming differences finally became too much for the childhood friendship to withstand. The breaking point was when Ivanka showed no interest when Ohrstrom started a new job after including her in the wedding party.

Ohrstrom remembers sending a text a few weeks afterward saying, “I started a new job the day after your wedding, and you haven’t asked me a single question about it.” Ivanka reportedly responded by saying she was “too busy.” Although Ivanka continued to be polite, sending gifts and extending invitations to her events, the two were no longer the inseparable duo they’d been in their youth.
