At every wedding, guests cannot wait to see what dress the bride is wearing, and the royal wedding was no different. The crowd cheered as Markle stepped out of a black vehicle in an elegant Givenchy gown by British designer Clare Waight Keller.

A press release from the palace noted that the design of the dress was “true to the heritage of the house, the pure lines of the dress are achieved using six meticulously placed seams. The focus of the dress is the graphic open bateau neckline that gracefully frames the shoulders and emphasizes the slender sculpted waist.”

It continued to describe, “The lines of the dress extend towards the back where the train flows in soft round folds cushioned by an underskirt in triple silk organza. The slim three-quarter sleeves add a note of refined modernity.”

There was some drama in the days leading up to the royal wedding about whether or not the bride’s father, Thomas Markle Sr., was going to walk her down the aisle. When Markle announced that he wouldn’t attend following heart surgery, Harry’s father, Prince Charles, took his place.

Markle entered the church and met the future king of England halfway down the aisle. He then took her arm and gave her away to his son.

Prince Harry’s gestures and expressions throughout the ceremony were so touching. The prince got emotional when he saw Markle walking towards him and once she arrived at the alter, he whispered, “You look amazing,” and “I’m so lucky.”

Everyone also took notice that Harry didn’t want to let go of his bride’s hand and couldn’t help but steal several sweet glances of her during the sermon and readings.

The couple wanted to make sure that the memory of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, wasn’t lost during their big day so they had her older sister, Lady Jane Fellowes, give a reading from the Song of Solomon.

The rest of Diana’s family including Lady Kitty Spencer attended the event as well.

After the wedding, people couldn’t stop talking about how Markle’s American roots were represented by a bishop from Chicago named Michael Curry. The reverend delivered a passionate 14-minute sermon in which he used the word “love” a total of 68 times.

The sermon was unlike any other given at a royal wedding, and while some guests looked confused by the Dr. King references and such, others including Harry’s cousin, Princess Beatrice, appeared to really enjoy the change.

Another thing many of us didn’t expect to hear at a royal wedding was Ben E. King’s classic tune “Stand By Me.”

The song was sung by The Kingdom Choir and it was a rendition that seemed to move just about everyone in the chapel.
