The Most Outrageous Things That Have Ever Happened on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Grey’s Anatomy has been on for a long time. The show has entered it’s 16th season, and there’s no end in sight. Viewers have watched the characters have all kinds of crazy adventures. Their lives have taken so many dramatic twists and turns it’s hard to remember even half of them.

So to prepare for season 16, we thought it would be a good idea to take a look back at some of the craziest of crazy things that happened on Grey’s.

Two people got impaled by the same metal pole

One of the best things about Grey’s Anatomy is the main characters aren’t the only ones creating the drama. A hospital is inherently dramatic, although real hospitals may not be as dramatic as Seattle Grace.

In Season Two, fans got to see two people impaled by the same pole after a train crash. The surgery they needed was likely to kill one of them. There were a lot of emotions from all parties over which patient should be saved and which would have to be essentially given up for dead.

Ghost Denny

Denny dying was crazy enough. Then he came back as a ghost, and Izzy could talk to him. That was pretty outrageous. Then, she slept with him. What?

It was bizarre, and we have to wonder if the writers were mad at Katherine Heigl. Later, she would leave the show on bad terms. After winning an Emmy for her performance in 2007, she withdrew her name after she was nominated the following year. She gave a snarky comment to the press about how she hadn’t been given good material so she didn’t deserve an award.

Needless to say, the show’s producers were offended, and Heigl was gone.

The lion that got out

We really must love this show to be able to go along with this one. Apparently someone in Seattle has a pet lion. It escapes and injures a ton of people. And that’s not even the most dramatic thing about this episode.

“The Lion Sleeps Tonight” aired in 2012, and was inappropriately named considering the lion did not sleep. It attacked.

Aside from a lion attack, this particular episode was heavy on the relationship drama. How the doctors could even focus on their relationships with lion attack victims coming through the door of their Seattle hospital, we don’t know.

Cristina was stabbed by a falling icicle

It of course happened right after she told Meredith that she and Derek would never work. Cristina Yang was basically the captain of team Meredith. She was always encouraging her to value herself.

Her character was also a fan favorite, and playing her netted Sandra Oh a nice chunk of change. She was one of the highest-paid actors on the show at one point, making around $350,000 per episode.

George’s bus crash

If you didn’t cry when you realized that John Doe was actually George, you are a monster. The docs thought he was a stranger when he was brought to the hospital since his face was so damaged. This episode was so heart-wrenching it hurts to even think about.

George saved a stranger from being hit by a bus, only to be hit by it himself. He was unrecognizable when he got to the hospital, which only made it harder for his fellow staff members to accept he was gone when they did find out it was him.

One of the things fans love about Grey’s is that the show’s producers always find a way to top themselves. Despite all these outrageous moments, and all the others that fans have seen, Season 16 is still sure to bring surprises.
