The Most Shocking Things Jenna Dewan Tatum Ever Said About Her Marriage
In Hollywood terms, actress Jenna Dewan Tatum and her actor hubby, Channing Tatum, were married for 100 years. The couple met on the set of Step Up back in 2006, and the rest is history. While other couples called it quits quickly, the duo seemed to be keeping their marriage strong.
That’s why fans were so shocked when the celebrity couple officially announced their split in April 2018. The two took to social media to reveal news of their split. In the message, they call heir relationship “a beautiful adventure” and explain that “there are no secrets nor salacious events” that led them to make this choice.
So what exactly happened? Over the years, Dewan Tatum has been vocal about how hard it is to keep her relationship thriving. Here’s what she has revealed about her marriage in the past, including more on their separation announcement (page 8).
Dewan Tatum is as outspoken on the red carpets as she is in her relationships, but that wasn’t always the case.
In a 2017 interview with Redbook, she explained:
You change when you’re together from 25 to 35. I think maybe in my early 20s; I might have tiptoed around issues or didn’t want to make too many waves. Now it’s like, ‘This is how I’m feeling.’ You have to be OK with the other person becoming defensive, to let them be emotional and accept that it won’t be OK for a while.
More people, especially women, shouldn’t be afraid to speak out in their relationships (romantic or otherwise) and let folks know exactly how they feel.

Nobody is perfect
We tend to idolize celebrities, especially when their relationships are out there for the world to watch. However, we should remember that celebs are human beings just like us. In a recent interview with Health, Dewan Tatum was quick to give us all a reality check.
She said, “When people say you guys have such a perfect life, I want to scream and tell them no one’s perfect.”
Next: Balancing a spouse and kids
Making your spouse a priority
Parenthood certainly brings brand new challenges to life, which can certainly be difficult to balance. The Witches of East End alum once opened up about this, explaining how challenging it can be to juggle time with your spouse and time with your kid.
In a 2016 interview with People, she explained, “I think it’s important to be conscious about giving everyone equal attention. I’ll think, ‘Okay, I’ve been with my daughter a lot, so Channing and I need a date night.'”
Next: Growing and changing
When the Tatums appeared in Step Up, they were both fairly new to the entertainment industry, but since then they have both exploded to the top of the A-list.
Being able to grow together has been something that they’ve had to work on, as the Supergirl actress told Health,
I think there are such things as great fits. It is a great fit as long as you are growing together, and I think up until this point we’ve really grown together. Even if one starts to grow, the other catches up and vice versa. But I think a couple needs to be conscious and to want to do the work and be willing to look at the parts of you that need work. Both of us have been pretty aware and willing to do that. We’ve always had the same values.
Next: Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
We know some couples like to be glued to each other’s hips (how nauseating.) However, in their industry, the Tatums don’t really have that option. The couple spent a lot of time apart, although the actress once hinted the distance wasn’t always a bad thing.
The Playboy Club alum revealed to Redbook, “There’s a beauty in being two busy people because we get a lot of time to miss each other. To continue to miss someone after so many years is kind of a blessing in disguise.”
Next: Arguments and fights
Making your opinions known
Before announcing their split, Dewan Tatum once opened up about arguments in her marriage. As she told Health, “We’re not perfect! Are you kidding? We fight like other couples, we disagree about things, we have days where we don’t really like each other.”
Next: Making the time
Carving out time
Making your spouse a priority is one thing, but having to schedule time to spend with them is something else entirely. When you’ve been away from your spouse for a bit or if you’re stuck in a rut, it can be easy to just go about your daily life, sticking to your routine. However, Dewan Tatum said the two tried to carve out time for each other, even if it wasn’t always easy.
In an interview with Health, she revealed, “We have not yet scheduled sex, but we do schedule time together, so maybe that is sort of scheduling sex. We will go away for a weekend to get time, but we have no real regimented schedule. I have friends who do this [schedule sex]; it’s on the calendar. We’ve never done that — it might actually be a good idea.”
Next: A devastating announcement
Their official separation
On April 2, 2018, the Tatums released a joint statement via their personal social media accounts, in which they announced their separation.
In the message, they speak as one, saying in part:
We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now. There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible.
The two also acknowledged their daughter Everly, saying, “We are still a family and will always be loving dedicated parents.”
