The New Quentin Tarantino Movie Has 1 of the Best Casts Ever
Quentin Tarantino movies tend to boast unusually fantastic casts, but he’s really gone above and beyond for his latest project.
The director’s 2019 film is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which will take place in Los Angeles in 1969 and feature the Manson family murders in the backdrop of the story. The cast is slowly being assembled, and it has only gotten more mindblowing with every announcement. Here’s a look at the A-list stars who have joined Tarantino’s latest.
- DiCaprio will play a former TV star.
One of the first names to sign on to the movie was Leonardo DiCaprio, who previously worked with Tarantino on Django Unchained.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, DiCaprio will be playing one of the movie’s two lead characters, a guy by the name of Rick Dalton. He’s a former star of a western TV show who is struggling to make it in a Hollywood he doesn’t recognize anymore. And it just so happens that his next-door neighbor is Sharon Tate.
Next: This actor will play the co-lead alongside DiCaprio.
- Pitt will play the stunt double of DiCaprio’s character.
Signing up for the movie early on alongside DiCaprio was Brad Pitt, who has also worked with Tarantino on Inglourious Basterds.
Pitt will be playing Cliff Booth, Rick Dalton’s longtime stunt double who is also struggling to adapt to new Hollywood. DiCaprio and Pitt are expected to be the main two leads.

- Robbie will play Sharon Tate.
Sharon Tate will evidently be an actual character in the movie, and Margot Robbie will portray her.
In an interview with IndieWire, Robbie said that Tarantino is one of those directors she has always wanted to work with. She also said she feels she has a responsibility playing the character, although she’s no stranger to portraying a real person, having recently played Tonya Harding in I, Tonya.

- Pacino will play the agent of DiCaprio’s character.
The A-listers just keep coming, as Al Pacino has also signed on to the film. According to Deadline, Pacino will be playing Marvin Shwarz, who is the agent of DiCaprio’s character. It’s not entirely clear how big of a presence he will have in the film.
Pacino and Tarantino have never worked together before, although Tarantino had previously expressed interest in doing so.

- Reynolds will reportedly play George Spahn.
According to Deadline, Burt Reynolds will have a supporting role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as well, and he’ll be playing a real person. Reynolds will reportedly portray George Spahn, who in real life rented out his ranch to a variety of film productions over the years.
It’s easy to see how he will come into play in this movie, as Manson and his followers stayed on Spahn’s ranch in the period of time before Sharon Tate’s murder.

Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, and Emile Hirsch
- Lewis will play Steve McQueen, while Fanning will play Lynette Fromme and Hirsch will play Jay Sebring.
IndieWire reports that Damian Lewis has joined the project as well. He’ll reportedly be playing legendary actor Steve McQueen.
Meanwhile, Dakota Fanning has also joined as Lynette Fromme, a member of the Manson family who attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford.
In addition, Emile Hirsch is set to play Jay Sebring, a celebrity hairstylist who was killed alongside Tate. Hirsh’s casting has sparked a major backlash, as in 2015, he was charged with assault after choking a Paramount film executive until she became unconscious.

Kurt Russell, Michael Madsen, and Tim Roth
- The three actors are said to have smaller roles in the film.
Tarantino loves to work with actors more than once, and he’s bringing back three of his previous collaborators for this film: Kurt Russell, Michael Madsen, and Tim Roth.
According to Deadline, all three actors are said to play minor roles in the film. It’s not clear at this time who they’ll be portraying.

James Marsden, Luke Perry, Clifton Collins Jr., and Timothy Olyphant
- Four more actors have also signed on for the movie.
According to Variety, Westworld star James Marsden has joined the film as well. This report did not specify what role he will play.
However, Variety did also confirm the involvement of Luke Perry, Clifton Collins Jr., and Nicholas Hammond. Perry will be playing Scotty Lancer, while Collins Jr. will play “Ernesto the Mexican Vaquero” and Nicholas Hammond will play real-life director Sam Wanamaker. In addition, Keith Jefferson will portray a character named Land Pirate Keith.
