‘The Office’ Stars Would Get in Trouble for Doing This on Their Computers While Filming
The characters on The Office can often be found at their desks on their computers. That actually threw a wrench into filming and led to many actors getting in trouble. Find out why they would get in trouble, and why Rainn Wilson paid a lot of money in the end for making a mistake repeatedly.
Jenna Fischer followed a rule she didn’t know she could break
Jenna Fischer played Pam Beesley for years. That meant wearing the character’s work clothes that made acting a little awkward for her.
She would wear a pencil skirt and pantyhose. Her pantyhose would rip because she needed to wear a mic pack around her leg.
“The wardrobe people, they would put four or five packs of pantyhose in my trailer because they knew inevitably that I would get a run from this velcro, which was also itchy and uncomfortable,” she said on her podcast, Office Ladies.
The funny thing is that Angela Kinsey, who plays Angela Martin, didn’t wear pantyhose despite being given them. Fischer said she never even thought that not wearing them could be an option.
They would get in trouble for leaving banned stuff up on their computers
Filming can be tedious and there is a lot of waiting involved. It’s no surprise that the cast would pass the time by doing things on their computers. Eventually, this would get them in trouble.
Kinsey spotted that Stanley (Leslie David Baker) is seen playing with a toy blue convertible car during a scene in “The Dundies” episode of the podcast, Office Ladies. Jenna Fischer noticed something in the background too.
“Well did you notice, Angela that in the background of that same scene if you look at Meredith’s computer you can see she’s in them middle of a FreeCell game?!” said Fischer. She added, “So in later seasons after we got internet and we stopped playing FreeCell, we would get in trouble if we had unapproved things on our screens.”
Kinsey said, “Oh yeah, the camera guys would say, ‘Angela, we can totally see your email account.” Fischer then added, “Or you were looking at a website.”
The actress went on to say what they could leave up. “There were certain things that we were allowed to show on computer screen like fake documents, the Dunder Mifflin logo, FreeCell games I guess we got that cleared,” said Fischer.
Rainn Wilson paid a lot of money to charity because of this
It sounded like Wilson would get reminded about taking things off his computer screen often. Fischer revealed that he one day made a bold claim, which led to him paying a lot of money in the future.
“But we couldn’t have other stuff and we would get yelled at and then Rainn [Wilson] said, ‘You never have to tell me again about the screens, alright?! Stop hounding me about the screens. In fact, if you ever find something on my screen while we’re shooting that’s not allowed to be there I will donate $100 to charity every time,'” said Fischer.
That backfired on the actor. “He had to pay out so much because he would forget,” she said. They would also get in trouble for having soda and water bottles on their desks.
