The One ‘Friends’ Cast Member Who Didn’t Cry the Last Day of Filming

Currently available to stream on Netflix, Friends has become the sitcom that just keeps giving. Starring six 20-somethings who miraculously afford a Manhattan lifestyle (despite lacking the required salaries), Friends was one of the most-watched series on air from 1994 to 2004. It should come as no surprise that after ten years of working on a successful series together, the various cast and crew members formed a tight-knit bond. Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, and Matthew Perry played the iconic figures who will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and continue to warm our living rooms from the small screen.

While most of the cast members remember balling their eyes out on the last day of filming – frequently returning to the makeup artists’ chairs to fix them up – one cast member never shed a tear. So, who managed to keep it together all day, as everyone else watched makeup spill down their faces?

Matthew Perry didn’t cry when taping the ‘Friends’ series finale

According to E-News, Matthew Perry told The New York Daily, regarding the last day of filming, “I didn’t cry, but I felt like I was about to for like seven hours.” Who knows, maybe the man behind the wise-cracking Chandler Bing – cutting emotional tension with an awkward joke – boasts a personality not too far off from his famous TV character. Though he was “about to” cry, it seems that Perry managed to save his breakdown for a later point in time.

Maggie Wheeler, famous for portraying Chandler’s infamous ex-girlfriend Janice, told People that, as for the rest of the cast, “The tears were flowing and the entire cast had to go back and have their makeup redone before starting.”

As for the man we know and love as Ross, David Schwimmer held it together until the pre-show huddle. Matt LeBlanc later admitted, during an interview, that he had quit smoking, but started again when taping the series finale, explaining that the whole day was simply “very sad.”

While Matthew Perry was emotionally distraught on this final day of filming, it’s likely that he could have been a little numb. Sad, but not quite “there.”

Where is Matthew Perry today? What has he done since ‘Friends?’

Matthew Perry has been quite the busy bee since starring in Friends; however, he has yet to appear in a show of comparable status. Friends was and is a cultural phenomenon, and it’s rare that actors get to star in more than one throughout the span of their career.

Matthew Perry starred in a remake of The Odd Couple from 2015-2017, and he most recently starred as Ted Kennedy in 2017’s TV miniseries, The Kennedys After Camelot. He also played Mike Kresteva in The Good Fight and The Good Wife. In 2011, he starred as Ben Donovan in Mr. Sunshine, but the show never really took got the ground.

Perry has also had a few movie roles in 17 Again, The End of Steve, and The Ron Clark Story, but when it comes to Perry, he will forever be the man behind Chandler Bing: the one we could always count on to lighten the mood or say something bizarre.
