The Only Way Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Will Win Their Fight for Privacy

The newest royal couple has been catching a lot of heat about their demands for privacy. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are new parents and have made it clear that they want their space. It seems every time they ask for a little privacy, the press jumps on them.  The British tabloids fuel rumors about the two and their constant attacks leave the duke and duchess having to defend themselves a lot.

There was a lot of speculation about the move to Frogmore Cottage

Before Baby Archie was born, the two decided to move to the Windsor Estate, into the newly renovated Frogmore Cottage. The residence was previously a multi-family dwelling, so the two had a lot of space to work with. It’s natural that they would want extra room for their growing family.

However, the press wondered if there was a different reason the two wanted to move. There was a lot of speculation about Markle’s relationship with her in-laws. Tabloids posited that she moved because of issues with Kate Middleton, her sister in law and fellow duchess.

It’s unclear if the two moved because of family issues, although some royal insiders have described the relationship between the two women as tense.  There are even reports that Markle has made Middleton cry during the royal wedding.

In hindsight, though, it seems like the move to Frogmore Cottage may have been part the couple’s attempt at a private life.

The royal couple issued some interesting rules

After their move to Frogmore Cottage, royal handlers gathered all the Windsor Estate residents and gave them a set of strict rules. They were instructed not to speak to, approach, or communicate with the duke and duchess for any reason.

This came as a shock to the residents, who are accustomed to royal neighbors. Most of the Windsor Estate neighborhoods are occupied by people who work with the royal family. They know the royal protocol, and how to respect royal space. Some have even had tea with the queen.

While some speculate that the royal handler was overly zealous when dictating the rules, it’s clear that the couple wants privacy.

Is the media too harsh?

No one blames the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for wanting some space.  The media is constantly attacking them. The British tabloids are famously vicious, and they’ve been hounding Prince Harry for a while. His mother, Princess Diana, was also a constant target of the tabloids and paparazzi.

It would be better for the two to relax a little

Despite their best efforts at privacy, Markle and Prince Harry are still the subjects of constant media coverage. According to one royal expert, their requests for privacy may be what makes them more interesting to the media.

“It also had the added downside of making them seem aloof and secretive despite the duo’s warm and gregarious nature.”

The source, Daniela Elser, compared Prince Harry and Markle to the other European royals. She said that if the duke and duchess take a page from Spanish or Danish royalty, they may have an easier time with the media. She points to other European royals who allow the press a little access, and then go about their daily lives in peace.

While that may work for others, it still seems unlikely that a little access would get the media to lay off Markle and Prince Harry. Like we mentioned earlier, Prince Harry has been dealing with this type of scrutiny his whole life, and even he feels the media attacks are too much.

He’s stated that he feels racism is behind the especially brutal treatment of Markle. If that’s the case, it would explain why they’re treated differently from other European royals. Markle is biracial and proud of her identity.  It’s likely that even if they do relax a little and let the media in, they’ll still be attacked.
