‘The Pioneer Woman’: Ree Drummond Once Revealed the Biggest Piece of Advice Her Mother Gave Her About Cooking

The Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond has been cooking for her family since she married rancher Ladd Drummond back in 1996. Fans have watched the Food Network chef for more than a decade, and her kids and husband often make appearances on her show.

Some love Drummond for her positive attitude in the kitchen — and that stems from something Drummond learned from her own mother growing up.

‘The Pioneer Woman’ star Ree Drummond is a family-oriented celebrity chef

Drummond always puts her family first, despite her immense fame. Over the years, Drummond’s kids have been featured countless times on the show. And Drummond’s social media is even more about her family than it is about her career. She often highlights her kids’ accomplishments, whether it’s a high school football win or daughter Alex marrying the love of her life.

Drummond and her husband also recently added a new member of the family: Their foster son, Jamar. Jamar played football with the couple’s older son, Bryce, and when he needed a place to live, the Drummonds opened their home and never looked back.

“[Jamar] is an inextricable part of our wacky family,” Drummond said of her foster son.

Ree Drummond’s own mother taught her how to be calm in the kitchen

Drummond has learned plenty of cooking knowledge since starting her Pioneer Woman blog back in 2006 (the one that eventually led to a cooking show). Drummond began creating recipes for her husband and young kids, and people flocked to her website to imitate her daily dinners. Since then, Drummond has built a food empire — but she always keeps a positive attitude in the kitchen.

In August 2020, Drummond appeared on the HerMoney podcast to discuss her success — plus her budget-friendly habits. And the celebrity chef made a point to thank her mother for reminding her to keep stress free while cooking.

“I learned so much just from observing my mom,” Drummond said on the podcast. “She never stressed that something wasn’t going to turn out well.”

Drummond also added that she is “drawn to” chefs who don’t put too much “pressure” on themselves.

“If you have people over to eat, people are not going to care if you made a mistake. They’re going to remember that you smiled through it and made a joke out of it,” she added.

Are any of Ree Drummond’s kids following in her cooking footsteps?

Now that Drummond’s kids are almost all grown, it’s hard to say if any of them plan to take the cooking route like their mother. But from what fans know, they’re all attending college for various majors that don’t include cooking.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, Drummond’s kids took over as the film crew. It was clear the family had a fun time filming, though for the most part, her kids stayed behind the camera. While it doesn’t look like the Drummond children will be taking over for their mom any time soon, they’ve certainly enjoyed eating all of her hearty meals through the years.
