The Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond often talks about her husband, Ladd Drummond. She likes to share Instagram photos of their time together and she includes him in her Food Network episodes. Drummond often refers to her husband as the “Marlboro Man,” and she’s never shy about sharing how much she finds him attractive, even after more than two decades of marriage. How does the couple keep their relationship fresh? Here’s the one marriage tip Ree tries to follow.
Ree and Ladd experienced tough times during the early years of their marriage
In an interview with People magazine, Ladd revealed he and Ree overcame some tough times. They experienced financial strain and were learning how to adjust to life as a married couple. Ladd’s business went through a setback during the Mad Cow disease scare and the value of his land declined in the ’90s, reports the magazine.
Ladd told People money was so tight the couple had to give up vacations for six years. “The first 10 years of our marriage weren’t the easiest things in the world. The first six years that Ree and I were married we didn’t take a single vacation, and she never complained once,” he said
Ree and Ladd Drummond argue about this surprising thing
Ree and her husband appear to have a great marriage, but they still have arguments like any other couple. The Food Network star admits she and Ladd had a few disagreements when they were working on The Pioneer Woman boarding House, their eight-room hotel. She says they clashed when it came to their design styles.
Since they each like very different elements when it comes to design, the couple decided to divide the hotel down the middle and design each half differently. “I’m not going to paint a rosy picture of husband and wife working perfectly together,” she told People. “There were definite disagreements, and that is part of why we ended up splitting the building into two halves.”
The marriage tip Ree Drummond tries to follow
Ree and Ladd work hard to keep their marriage strong. Ree says one marriage tip she tries to stick to is refraining from going to bed angry. Here’s what she told Parade magazine:
Ladd and I try not to go to bed with a disagreement still pending. I always make a joke that if our feet touch before we go to sleep, then everything’s fine. We have the same primary love language, which is quality time, and we do our best to have that time as much as we can at the end of the day. We try not to let that fall by the wayside because we do our best when we’re together.
