During the BlogHer 2013 conference, The Food Network star offered advice to beginning bloggers. She told them to keep writing every day and not to quit when things get tough:

I love blogging. All of this is because I started a blog in 2006. If you don’t quite know what you’re doing yet, just stick with it. I have a list of things that I learned about blogging, and one of them is blog often. That really was helpful for me in the early days, was just committing myself to blogging. And it really is like a muscle. The less you exercise that muscle, the more it will atrophy. The more you flex it, the stronger you’ll become and the more natural it will become.

Drummond discussed how she got her start. At one point the host asked Drummond for her advice for bloggers dealing with online trolls. Here’s what the Food Network star said about managing online hate:

I have a lot of advice. I’ve been through it; I know how it feels. When you start on the internet, I think it starts pretty early just because of the anonymous nature of the internet. My number one piece of advice is, don’t let them do that to you. Don’t let them zap your creativity, don’t let them take what you have created. Don’t let them fill you with fear. Having friends that are fellow bloggers was essential to me through the years. Your family might support you blogging, and they might be excited about your blogging, but they don’t understand blogging. They don’t understand what it’s like to be a blogger and not only just the work we do, the day-in, day-out grind, but also the dark side. Surround yourself with people you trust who are bloggers.

My approach, and I don’t like to give this as advice, but my approach is a little bit based on the prayer of St. Francis, which is make me an instrument of your peace. I don’t want to put it back out there. So, for me, it has always stopped on my doorstep. It would be a disproportionate response considering the good I have experienced and the kindness, for me to turn my eyes to the bad. That’s been my approach so far.

What’s next for Ree Drummond

Drummond has been quite busy. She recently announced a new line of sauces and dips. Drummond also opened an ice cream shop and released a line of dog treats. One complaint some of her fans had is that she hasn’t released any products for cats yet. Perhaps that will be Drummond’s next project.
