The Prophetic New Years Resolution Meghan Markle Made Right Before Meeting Prince Harry

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is currently lying low and enjoying the holiday season with her family. Still, the duchess is consistently in the headlines, as one of the most buzzed-about royal family members.

With 2020 officially underway, there’s no doubt that Markle is sitting back and reflecting a bit on the past year, and the highs and lows that it brought. She might even be making a resolution or two.

There’s one New Year’s resolution that she is unlikely to ever forget: the one that she made the year that she met Prince Harry.

Markle was born in California in 1981. As a child, she enjoyed a close relationship with both her mother, yoga instructor Doria Ragland, as well as her father, lighting director Thomas Markle, in spite of the fact that they divorced when she was very young.

Markle often accompanied her father to the sets of various television shows that he worked on, developing her fascination with all things entertainment. As she grew up, Markle’s interest in social activism became more apparent and she continued to explore her interest in both international affairs as well as entertainment.

After graduating from Northwestern University in 2003 with a double major in international studies and theater, Markle began to pursue a career in acting. She supported herself with various odd jobs while trying to break into the industry, including teaching calligraphy and working at restaurants.

Markle had a lot of small roles in movies such as Get Him to the Greek and Horrible Bosses but eventually landed a breakout role in the TV drama Suits in 2011. The role brought Markle a great deal of media attention and she began to enjoy the perks of fame.

What was Meghan Markle’s prophetic New Year’s resolution?

In 2014, Meghan Markle launched her very own lifestyle blog, called “The Tig” after her favorite brand of wine. On her blog, Markle shared lifestyle tips, recipes, fashion advice, and interviews with people that she admired.

Markle also shared some special content around the holidays, including her 2016 New Year’s resolutions. One of those resolutions, in particular, would hold special meaning for Markle as the year went on.

In January 2016, she shared this nugget of wisdom: “My New Year’s resolution is to leave room for magic. To make my plans, and be okay if they sometimes break. To set my goals, but to be open to change.”

Markle encouraged her followers to do the same. Clearly, there was a bit of magic in the air as she wrote down this resolution, because only a few months later, in the summer of 2016, Markle met Prince Harry through a mutual friend.

As we continue to reflect on some of the organisations supported by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, today we wanted to share more about @TheMayhew, an animal welfare charity which The Duchess became Patron of earlier this year. Mayhew believes in the power of community and the special bond between humans and animals, which is why their programming does not simply focus on rescuing animals but rather takes a more holistic approach to shaping the lives of pets and humans, alike. Their TheraPaws dogs and volunteers now visit not just care homes and hospitals, but also mental health facilities and youth groups – expanding the benefits of animal assisted therapy into much needed areas. They also work with the homeless community assisting with treatments and check ups for their pets so that the most vulnerable can trust that their pet will remain by their side. This year, Mayhew has continued its specialized work overseas, vaccinating more than 30,000 dogs against rabies and other diseases, and empowering locals to improve animal welfare humanely and sustainably. The Duchess is also proud that they are creating opportunities for women, with the female led vet team in Kabul neutering 2,500 dogs so far this year. As a long-time rescue dog owner, The Duchess of Sussex is proud to be Mayhew’s Patron and applauds them for the vital work that they do every day. Also in 2016, Markle revealed what some of her past resolutions have been. She acknowledged that each year, she resolves to stop swearing but hadn’t had much luck kicking the habit. She also revealed that she has a bad habit of biting her nails and that every year, she pledges to run a marathon. Finally, she claimed that she wanted to re-learn French, but hadn’t yet managed to dedicate the necessary time to pick the language back up.

There’s no word on whether or not she has finally managed to succeed at any of these previous New Year’s resolutions. But, even if she never does, she certainly managed to “leave room for magic” in her life, as evidenced by her fairytale wedding in May 2018.
