‘The Real’ Host Jeannie Mai Is Being Dragged for Agreeing With T.I. Checking His Daughter’s Hymen

Jeannie Mai, one of the hosts of daytime talk show, The Real, is receiving backlash on social media for essentially agreeing with the fact that T.I. goes to the gynecologist with his daughter to make sure her hymen is intact. The backlash has caused Mai to issue an apology on Instagram.

Jeannie Mai agrees with T.I.

T.I. first sparked controversy this week when he revealed that he went to his 18-year-old daughter Deyjah Harris‘ OB-GYN appointments with her to ensure that her “her hymen is still intact.” The comments were met with large and swift criticism.

On an episode of the daytime talk show The Real this week, one of the hosts, Jeannie Mai, said she was in favor of what T.I. was doing.

“I support what T.I. is doing because I understand how hard it must be to communicate with an opposite-gender daughter, especially in this time and especially with what he must have seen and known of what boys are like. For me, I was a very wild girl. I didn’t like rules; I rebelled a lot.”

She continued, “Is it the STDs? Is it that she doesn’t understand what love is? Does he need to know who the boys are? Why doesn’t he trust her? … Whatever it is, he needs to speak it with her.”

What fans are saying about Jeannie Mai agreeing with T.I.

One person tweeted, “I can’t believe Jeannie Mai is siding with TI. Is it bc he’s friends with Jeezy? Like what the h*ll she sounded crazy trying to explain why too. How is this of all things going over her head?! Very disappointing.”

“I cannot believe @jeanniemai on national TV said she supports T.I!! Jeannie you may have been wild but you were acting out because of what happened to you. I love Jeannie she is always preaching but this wasn’t it on the @TheRealDaytime I was so disappointed,” a viewer commented.

Another added, “Hold up. So @jeanniemai is an avid advocate for people who have been sexually assaulted, but has no respect for a girls’ right to bodily autonomy? I’m confused as hell right now how she can defend TI violating his daughter’s bodily autonomy like this on @TheRealDaytime.”

Jeannie Mai apologizes for her comments

After fans and viewers called her out, Mai apologized for her what she said and attempted to clarify her initial statements.

“I watched over the clip and I realize I should have been more clear about my ‘support’ of T.I. I DO NOT agree with the extremity of invading a woman’s personal body ever. I’m also not in T.I.’s family to speak on how he raises his kids. What I truly meant is that I EMPATHIZE with what fathers go through to ensure their daughters are safe in today’s world,” she said in her Instagram comments.

At this time, we are thinking of Deyjah Harris after being thrust into the spotlight at such a young age and all the discourse surrounding her.
