Everything We Know About ‘The Real Housewives of D.C.’ 10-Year Reunion
Bravo fans got excited when news about The Real Housewives of D.C. returning hit Twitter. A former cast member of the show reminded everyone that it was 10 years since the show started filming. To celebrate the milestone all the ladies would be reuniting and we have more of the details.
First of all, most might not remember that before The Real Housewives of Potomac, there was a franchise set in D.C. This was the fifth installment of the Housewives format following Orange County, New York City, Atlanta, and New Jersey.
RHODC consisted of five women that lived in the Washington D.C. area and had ties to politics. Mary Amons, Lynda Erkiletian, Cat Ommanney, Stacie Scott Turner, and Michaele Salahi were the main ladies of this series.
The show premiered on August 5 of 2010 and went through October 21 of the same year. Only eleven episodes were produced of the show and it was canceled by Bravo a short time after.
‘RHODC’ controversies led to cancellation
Even before RHODC had aired its first episode, everyone was aware of the show because one of its cast members crashed the White House. Salahi and her husband at the time allegedly attended a state dinner with no proper invitation. They both ended up getting up close and talking to President Obama. The news received national attention and might have led to the series getting canceled.
Right before the series premiere of Potomac, Andy Cohen said he wanted to bring the show back for a second season by the controversy left a “stink.”
“I mean, I loved ‘Real Housewives of D.C.’ I wanted to bring it back for a second season,” Cohen said, according to The Hill. “That show really got torpedoed by the ‘Salamis,’ I feel like, with the White House crash. There was such a stink on it from those two.”
Reunion after 10 years
Although many fans have moved on from RHODC, there are still a couple out there that wish there would’ve been a second season. After all, this was the only franchise not to get a sympathy sophomore shot to reinvent itself.
Amons sent all her fans for a loop when she tweeted the following message: “Friends! It’s been a while, but I’m back. Exciting RHODC anniversary announcement [is] in the works. Stay tuned! Can you believe that our season of crazy and fun was filmed 10 years ago?”
Fans started replying to the great news and Amons added that she was “so excited to gather together for a long-overdue RHODC reunion.”
When a fan asked if Salahi, now Michaele Schon, would be part of the reunion, Amons said she was excited to see her too.
Another fan asked if the special would be a stand-alone episode for Bravo or part of Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live nightly show. “Wait and ‘watch what happens,'” Amons replied.
Amons also confirmed that Ommaney, who is British, was taking part in the reunion.
“She’s flying across the pond for a RHODC pow wow to bring her unforgettable ‘catattude,'” Amons revealed.
The last bit Amons added was that all the cast was getting back together to celebrate the “10-year filming anniversary” and for fans to “stay tuned for official announcements coming soon.”
