Britney Spears is putting family matters before work.

The singer announced her decision to go on an “infinite hiatus” from performing in order to support her father after he endured a health scare.

Here is exactly why Britney Spears is putting her Las Vegas residency on the back burner for the time being.

Britney Spears plans on taking care of her father

Britney Spears has put a halt on performing in her new Las Vegas show Domination due to her father’s health.

It has been revealed that the singer’s father, Jamie Spears, was hospitalized a couple of months go after he became seriously ill. He suffered a colon rupture which was life-threatening and was immediately admitted into surgery.

A statement released from the Spears family states, “Jamie Spears spent the next 28 days in the hospital under the care of the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital, [which] the Spears family credits with saving his life,” the statement continues. “After a long, complicated post-operative period, he is recuperating at home and gaining strength, and is expected to make a full recovery.”

Britney Spears is very involved in her father’s recovery and plans on doing everything she can to make sure he has a full recovery.

For this reason, the singer announced that she has put her Las Vegas residency on hold in order for her to be there for her father.

Britney Spears revealed her hiatus on Twitter

After coming to terms with her decision, Spears took to Twitter to announce the news to her fans.

In a post that included a picture of young Spears alongside her parents, the singer wrote, “I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say,” began. I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart.”

The singer continues with a second tweet, “However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him.”

Though Spears is heartbroken she will not be able to perform, she hopes her fans can understand.

Following the tweet that explains her hiatus, the singer included a link to her website where fans, who already bought tickets to her show, can get full refunds.

This isn’t the first time the singer has focused on family

Britney Spears has always puts her family first, no matter what.

The singer is known for focusing on motherhood before her career. Raising her two sons Sean Preston, 13, and Jayden James, 12, there have been instances where Spears has fallen behind on work responsibilities in order her to be a mother.

“My kids come first in my life, bottom line,” the singer told PEOPLE exclusively in 2015

The singer plans on taking as much time as she needs

From the looks of it, Britney Spears is most likely not going to perform for a while.

Until Jamie Spears is healthy once again, the singer will remain on her hiatus in order to be by her father’s side.

This news is very sad but we hope the “Toxic” singer will make a comeback and return to the Vegas strip in the near future.

After Spear’s first Las Vegas residency received over $100 million in ticket sales, there is no question that once the singer hits the stage again, she will be one of the highest paid performers in Las Vegas.
