The Real Reason Britney Spears Took Her Kids Away From Her Dad

Britney Spears is just trying to do right by her kids. But that hasn’t been easy lately.

Her ex, Kevin Federline, has accused Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, of abusing their son, Sean Preston Federline.

What happened between Jamie and Sean Preston?

According to Kevin’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, the physical abuse occurred on Aug. 24 while both Sean Preston and his brother, Jayden James, were visiting Britney at Jamie’s house.

Sources told The Blast that Jamie was arguing with Britney and Sean Preston when he got angry. The 13-year-old then got scared and ran to his room and locked the door.

The source alleged that Jamie broke the bedroom door and “violently shook” Britney’s son.

“There was a disagreement that occurred while Britney and the children were visiting with Jamie at his home that led to a physical altercation that was observed by Jayden,” Kaplan told People. “Britney did the right thing and removed the children and took them out of there, but the trauma to the kids is nonetheless.”

What has been done since the incident?

Though Britney did the right thing, according to Kaplan, Federline and the attorney still filed documents on Aug. 28 to change Britney and Federline’s 50/50 custody agreement.

Kaplan says that Federline now has custody of the two children, “closer to 90” percent of the time. According to the lawyer, this custody split has already been in place unofficially for almost a year.

Britney and Jamie

Britney’s relationship with her father has always been very important to her. When her dad fell ill, the singer took a break from her career and canceled her Domination show in Las Vegas to take care of him.

“I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say,” she captioned a photo on Instagram of her as a child with her parents. “I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart.”

“However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make,” she wrote. “A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him.”

“I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time,” she finished. “I hope you all can understand. More information on ticket refunds is available on britneyspears.com. I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always.”

After being a caretaker for her father, Britney needed to also spend some time looking after herself. So, in April, she checked herself into a wellness facility.

“Britney just needed to focus on herself,” a source told People.  “Her dad being sick has taken a toll on her. He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He’s not doing well. They’re so close and it has been a lot. There is nothing dramatic going on with her — she just realized she needs to make sure to take time to care for herself.”
