The Real Reason Farrah Abraham From ‘Teen Mom’ Dropped Out of Her Celebrity Boxing Match
There are few reality TV stars as polarizing as Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham. From the beginning of her time on MTV on 16 and Pregnant to her final days on the network raising her daughter on camera before her firing from Teen Mom OG, Farrah possessed a love-it-or-hate-it personality that certainly drew a crowd. There’s one aspect of her life that’s undeniable, however — and that’s that she’s good at marketing herself and making money.
Recently, Farrah was all set to participate in a celebrity boxing match on November 10. But after months of training (much of which was recorded and posted on Instagram), she suddenly dropped out. Here’s why.
Farrah was set to fight fellow reality TV star, Hoopz
No one expected Farrah to pick up boxing in her life after Teen Mom, but that’s exactly what she did. Thanks to professional boxer Damon Feldman, who gives celebrities their “16th minute” of fame with these celebrity boxing matches, Farrah was set to enter the ring. And it was all for a good cause, too, as the profits were going toward raising awareness for anti-bullying.
Fans were just as excited to see Farrah in the ring as they were to see her opponent, Nicole Alexander, or “Hoopz” in reality TV world. Hoopz won Flavor Flav’s affection on the early 2000s series Flavor of Love. While the two didn’t work out, she hasn’t stepped too far out of the spotlight since then, as she’s modeled, acted, and played basketball at a high level. She was set to be an incredibly tough opponent to beat.
Farrah claimed the promoters didn’t provide her with proper accommodations
While fans were all set to see two reality TV stars get their fight on, Us Weekly reports Farrah pulled the plug on her appearance. As for why she initially said she dropped out, according to Farrah, Feldman and Michael Mak, the two promoters, didn’t provide her with the accommodations she was promised. “No flights, hotels, no coach flights, family that they agreed contractually,” Farrah told the publication. “The promoters failed to do business properly, and I’m more than happy to show off my work of training for four months.”
Hoopz wasn’t deterred by Farrah’s sudden dropout, however. She posted on Instagram a photo of herself with the quote, “She’s using the promoter as a reason to back out … the fight is still happening with or without her. We agreed because of the cause not because of Farrah.”
The fight did indeed go on — and instead of Farrah in the ring, it was Mob Wives star Natalie DiDonato. Hoopz ended up winning the match, too.
The real reason she dropped out of the fight
While Farrah initially said it was the promoters’ fault for her dropout, something else seemed to be amiss. In Touch Weekly reports the star took to Instagram live to also share that she wasn’t happy with the referee of the match. Mob Wives star Drita D’Avanzo was hired to be the referee, and it’s common knowledge that the two don’t get along.
As for why Drita and Farrah can’t stand each other, we remember a very public spat the two had during the summer of 2018. In Touch Weekly reports the two met for a joint appearance at an Atlantic City event — and after that, words flew over social media. Farrah called Drita a “has been” and posted a photo of a clown face over Drita’s on Instagram. After that, Drita shared her own thoughts on Farrah, saying, “what does bother me is when I’m hanging out with you and you’re nice and you’re cool and then I wake up in the morning to hear that you’re ripping me to shreds on your IG.” And it only progressed from there.
The two still hate each other, evidently, as Drita’s appearance is certainly part of the reason Farrah didn’t attend the match.
Will she be sued for not participating?
Farrah recently spent plenty of time relaxing in the Maldives, as evidenced by her Instagram. But she may actually have quite a bit on her plate to worry about. People reports promoters who were putting on the event threatened to sue Farrah if she didn’t participate, as they claim they met all of the demands of the contract. They also stated that they had already purchased the first class plane tickets for Farrah and her daughter, Sophia, and that they had given Farrah half the money for the fight ahead of time.
We know now that Farrah did drop out of the fight after all was said and done. As far as legal discourse is concerned, that’s still to be determined.
