The Real Reason Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton Aren’t in a Rush to Get Married
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton don’t need a marriage license to solidify their commitment to each other.
Although the couple has been together for four years and have spoken openly about their desire to one day tie the knot, there are perfectly fine just being partner without the official title.
While they still want to get married one day, becoming husband and wife isn’t a huge deal to them and consider marriage just an added bonus to their relationship.
Stefani can’t marry Shelton until she nullifies her previous marriage
Over the course of their four year relationship, rumors surrounding Stefani and Shelton getting engaged and planning their wedding have spread like wildfire.
The world has been patiently waiting for this couple to finally announce their plans to take that next big step in their relationship. While we thought the the pair was close to doing this, there is one thing they have to take care of before they can get hitched.
Although both of them are fully onboard with the idea of marriage, Stefani’s Roman Catholic faith is actually getting in the way of her officially becoming Mrs. Shelton.
A source recently explained People that the No Doubt singer really wants get married in a church, but due to her faith and previous divorce, that isn’t really possible at the moment.
In order for the couple to have the wedding of their dreams, Stefani’s marriage to Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale has to be annulled—which could take up to a year to complete—before her union with Shelton is sanctified.
For those of you who don’t remember, the “Hollaback Girl” crooner was married to Rossdale for 13 years before she filed for divorce in 2015.
Although she and Rossdale are officially divorced through the court, Stefani has yet to obtain a “declaration of nullity” from the church, which her faith requires before she can tie the knot with someone else.
Shelton and Stefani believe that they’re already living in marital bliss
Although the couple is very serious about their faith and want to complete all of the necessary steps before tying the knot, it turns out the religion is not the main reason why they are waiting to get married.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Shelton and Stefani believe that they already have an ideal life together and aren’t in a rush to become husband and wife.
“Gwen’s faith is incredibly important to her but it isn’t the only thing keeping them from a big wedding,” a source shared. “They made a deal to take it slow after their divorces. Neither Gwen nor Blake wanted to rush into marriage. They have been living the life they have always dreamt of together and haven’t felt the need.”
Though they love each other and really want to move forward in their relationship, the pair will make their union happen when the time is right.
“A wedding hasn’t been a priority, but when it becomes important, they will take the steps they need to do it properly through the eyes of the Church,” the source continued. “It will take time but they will follow the steps and make it happen. They make all their important life decisions together, talking throughout the day whenever they are apart.”
“Gwen feels she has found the man of her dreams and Blake knows Gwen is the one for him,” the source adds. “They both adore one another and plan to spend the rest of their life together. Their friends are sure a marriage will happen soon enough.”
