The Real Reason ‘Long Island Medium’ Theresa Caputo and Larry Caputo Divorced

There are numerous reasons as to why fans love Theresa Caputo from TLC’s Long Island Medium. Not only does she change lives with her shocking ability to contact the dead, but she also has a big and bold personality that can’t be missed. From her big hair to her long nails to her heavy accent, fans would love to watch Theresa and her family go about their day-to-day lives whether she had her incredible gift or not.

Unfortunately, fans were rocked at the end of 2017 when it was announced that Theresa and her husband, Larry, would be separating. Here’s why they chose to divorce and whether they’re on good terms now.

Theresa and Larry were married for over 28 years when they decided to separate

The Long Island Medium stars were married for nearly three decades when they finally decided to call it quits — and we can’t forget about their love story. Bustle explains in Theresa’s book, There’s More to Life Than This, her aunt had a psychic over who told Theresa she was going to meet a very special man who was older than her. The man was going to have a beard and a mustache, too. Theresa noted she was dating someone at the time and didn’t think much of it, but she finally met Larry while working at his family’s oil company part time. Though he was 11 years older than her, they fell in love and were married just two years later.

The rest was history after that. Theresa and Larry have two kids together and have shared adorable moments with their fans while on TV. Unfortunately, their love story came to an end in December 2017.

Larry said they didn’t get to spend time together anymore

Their marriage may have seemed rock solid, but fans did notice tension between the two in more recent episodes of the show. And Larry opened up to his friends on the show about why his marriage was ending, E! News notes.

In December 2017, right around the time the two were choosing to separate, Larry said, “We’re having a difficult time. I think a lot of the frustration has to do with us not spending the time together anymore.” He also said it’s like “losing your best friend,” and even though he tried to stay busy to stop focusing on his crumbling marriage, it was always on his mind.

Theresa said the tension in the house was awful

Separating wasn’t just on Larry’s mind, either. After the two announced their separation, Theresa spoke candidly on Long Island Medium about their choice to move on with their lives. Good Housekeeping notes she said “the tension was so bad in the house, it’s something that happened over time. It’s nothing that happened overnight.” She also mentioned that while some fans may blame her busy work schedule, choosing to end a long marriage is never that simple. “This is something that has happened over the years, and it is sad, and it f***king sucks. That’s it,” she added.

While the separation and divorce proved extremely difficult for Theresa and Larry, Theresa noted that people change over time, too — and you can never know who you’re going to be five, 10, or 20 years from now. “[We’re] working and finding our place. We’ve been together for a very long time. And people change. We all change,” she said. It’s certainly for the best that they split before any hard feelings or resentment built between them, too.

Larry is already moving on with someone new

Since the mutual split, it seems Larry is already finding love again. People reports in June 2018, he told news outlets that he was seeing another woman. In his words, “I have moved on. I’m fortunate enough to say that I have met someone special. But I’ll just leave it for that now.” He also added that he’s happy and he knows Theresa is also doing well.

As for if Larry and Theresa speak anymore, we’re not sure — but we do know there are few hard feelings between them. They released a joint statement stating that they will always “love and support each other” and be the best parents possible to their kids.
