This Is the Real Reason Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Chose the Name Archie Harrison Claims ‘Finding Freedom’
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, on May 6, 2019. In the new royal biography Finding Freedom, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand gave fans insight into the real reason why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose the name Archie. The journalists also revealed that Harry and Meghan almost gave their son a different name.
Archie Harrison is Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s number one priority
Harry and Meghan have laid relatively low since moving to the United States in March. According to Elle Magazine, Harry recently opened up about his new life in America during a Zoom appearance with the Rugby Football League.
The duke explained that he was “unbelievably fortunate” to have outdoor space so Archie could play outside. He understands that many people haven’t had the opportunity to do that during the last five months because of the pandemic.
Harry also revealed that he and Meghan are working on their new Archwell foundation, but their top priority is their son.
“Our little man is our number one priority, but our work after that is the second priority,” Harry said. “And we’re just trying to do everything we can to do our part to make the world a better place.”
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are suing Splash News over paparazzi pics of Archie
Meghan and Archie are currently in the middle of a lawsuit with the picture agency Splash News over paparazzi photos taken when Archie was eight months old. According to Newsweek, Meghan’s lawyer told London’s High Court that she and Archie “were papped” by photographer Steve Dennet when they were out walking her dogs.
Dennet took the photos on Vancouver Island back in January when Meghan was in a public park back. Harry and Meghan briefly lived in Canada after they stepped down as senior working royals.
Meghan is suing the paparazzi agency with claims that they breached her privacy and misused private information. Her goal is to prevent the pictures from being used in the future. Meghan’s 15-month-old son is listed as a claimant in the case as “Master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.”
After Dennet took the pics through a security fence, they were immediately sold to The Daily Mail and The Sun.
Archie Harrison almost had a different name
Express reports that in the book Finding Freedom, Scobie and Durand revealed that Harry and Meghan knew their baby’s gender before his birth in May 2019. The couple landed on the name Archie Harrison about a week prior to his arrival. But, they almost went with another choice.
The journalists wrote that Harry and Meghan “wanted something traditional, a name that was powerful even without a title in front of it.” This led to the Sussexes considering the name Archibald for their son.
“They thought about Archibald for all of one second… he was always going to be Little Archie,” wrote Scobie and Durand.
Archie’s name means strength and bravery. He is the inspiration for Harry and Meghan’s new non-profit organization, Archewell.
“Before SussexRoyal came the idea of ‘Arche’ – the Greek word meaning ‘source of action,'” Harry and Meghan explained. “We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name.”
