The Real Reason ‘Pioneer Woman’ Ree Drummond Missed Her Anniversary with Ladd Drummond
No matter what kind of television you’re a fan of, there’s no doubt the Food Network is a serious crowd-pleaser. And while Ree Drummond is a relative newcomer to the network, she’s already created a huge fan base for herself based off of her delicious cuisine and warm personality. Thanks to The Pioneer Woman, viewers are able to get a glimpse into her life on her ranch — and we adore her relationship with her husband, Ladd Drummond, as well.
If there’s any couple who’s seemingly perfect, it’s Ree and Ladd — so fans were shocked when they heard they missed their anniversary. Here’s why it happened.
Ree and Ladd have discussed the ups and downs of their marriage before
Like any marriage, there are plenty of highs and lows — and Ree and Ladd have been totally candid about their relationship in the past. It’s important to remember that when Ree and Ladd were first dating, they seemingly wanted totally different things. Ladd loved the countryside, and Ree had hoped to move to the city. We know now that she stayed in cowboy country to raise her family, of course, but their differences have put them at odds before.
As Ladd told People, “The first 10 years of our marriage weren’t the easiest things in the world. We had financial struggles; we had everything that every couple goes through in the early years.” As for more recent times, Ree also told the publication that with their luxury hotel they recently finished, they disagreed quite a bit, causing rifts. As Ree explained, “There were definite disagreements, and that is part of why we ended up splitting the building into two halves.” Even so, she noted that when she’s upset with Ladd at the end of the day, she still likes her space while falling asleep — but she always ensures their feet are touching to remind each other they’re in this together.
Here’s why they missed their most recent anniversary
It might be harder for young couples to imagine skipping out on their anniversary, but after two decades of marriage, it didn’t appear to be too big of a deal for Ree and Ladd. On Ree’s blog, she wrote a post back in October 2018 detailing an extremely hectic few days. She explained that she and Ladd headed to visit their daughter, Alex, at college for a special awards ceremony, and they also wanted to get back to see their younger son, Bryce, play in his football game. Along with that, there was also unfortunate news that Ladd’s grandmother had passed away.
Clearly it was a jam-packed few days, and it appears their anniversary simply slipped them by while life was moving fast. As Ree wrote, “We celebrated by finally falling in bed at 11:30 that night and passing out. Ha. But we touched feet while we slept, which means all is right with the world.” At least the happy couple was together and there were no hard feelings involved.
Ladd may have made it up to Ree in this special way

I was so honored to be inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame last week (more on this later!), but was even more honored that the person who introduced me during the ceremony was Ladd, who is neither a public speaker nor comfortable on stage, but who knew how much it meant to me for him to do this. He spoke in front of 1,400 people, and I got a lump in my throat watching him backstage because I was so darn proud of him (hence the look on my face as I'm walking out.) Also, he hasn't worn a tux since our wedding day, but I'm thinking he should start wearing it to Monday night dinner. And Tuesday night dinner. And so on..❤️
They may not have done much for their anniversary, but in November 2018, it seems Ladd may have seriously made it up to his famous wife. Ree posted a photo to Instagram of Ladd at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame ceremony, as she was inducted. And the one who said her induction speech was none other than Ladd himself. While she notes Ladd isn’t one for speaking in front of others or standing in front of a crowd on stage, he knew how much it meant to her, and so he went forth and did it anyway. As she wrote, “He spoke in front of 1,400 people, and I got a lump in my throat watching him backstage because I was so darn proud of him (hence the look on my face as I’m walking out.)”
It may have been over a month after their anniversary, but even so, the pair didn’t seem to mind. They always put each other first which is what makes their marriage so special.
