The Real Reason Prince William and Prince Harry Have Never Visited Camilla Parker-Bowles’ House

Anyone who’s ever watched a Disney movie knows about the “evil stepmother” stereotype. It’s easy for people to assume all stepmothers are unwelcome – even when this couldn’t be further from the truth. One stepmother who’s been particularly victimized over the years? Camilla Parker-Bowles.

The relationship between the Duchess of Cornwall and her stepsons, Prince William and Prince Harry, is famously fraught with tension. After all, their beloved mother was no fan of Camilla. Princess Diana’s tragic death made everyone despise Camilla Parker-Bowles a little bit more. She may not have directly caused Diana’s death, but people hated her just the same.

Over the years most royal family followers have begrudgingly come around on the idea of Prince Charles being with his long-time lover. The couple made it official and are even married now. However, there are some key reasons why Prince William and Prince Harry have never set foot inside her house.

Diana’s sons have never been inside Camilla’s house

When Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles finally got married, she already had a life of her own. She was previously married to Andrew Parker-Bowles and the pair raised two children together. That’s why it makes perfect sense that Camilla, who had plenty of her own money before wedding the future king, would want to keep her other house.

The married couple spends much of their time living at Clarence House in London. Their official family home is Highgrove House near Tetbury, Gloucestershire and they also own a private residence in Scotland called Birkhall, which was the former home of the Queen Mother.

Camilla has another house that she never gave up even when her life changed dramatically. Ray Mill in Wiltshire still belongs to Camilla – but her stepsons have never been there.

Why haven’t Prince William and Prince Harry visited Camilla’s home?

The most obvious reason that her stepsons have never been to Camilla’s house is they don’t need to go there. It’s not necessarily a diss for their stepmother – when Prince Charles and Camilla wed in 2005, Prince William and Prince Harry were already grown up and out of the house. They saw Camilla plenty at royal events or family gatherings but had no reason to enter her personal home.

Part of the reason Prince William and Prince Harry don’t hang out at their stepmother’s house probably has something to do with their relationship, though. While they tolerate her, there’s no reason to believe the princes are close enough with Camilla to want to visit her private residence.

Does Camilla Parker-Bowles get along with her stepsons?

Previous sources report a “distance” between the Duchess of Cornwall and her stepsons. That doesn’t mean open hostility – but it appears the family gets along as much as they need to without becoming overly chummy.

Prince Charles and Camilla took things slowly after Charles’ divorce from Diana, staying out of the public eye and generally keeping their relationship low key. By the time the pair formally got married, most people were used to seeing them together, including Prince Charles’ two sons.

Will they ever visit their stepmother’s house in the future? It’s possible. But not likely.
