The Real Reason the Queen Doesn’t Want to Talk About Meghan Markle
It looks like there is some trouble in the royal family. But then again, would it really be a family if there wasn’t some kind of internal drama?
The latest news is that the Queen has allegedly requested that the people around her not mention her grandson, Prince Harry, or his wife, Meghan Markle, in her presence. Now, that is a tall order given that Harry is in her family and in the media almost every day. But when you’re a queen, these are the kind of requests that you can make.
The order became public when royal expert, Quentin Letts, tweeted about the queen’s request.
“Friend of an acquaintance was about to go riding with HMQ,” he tweeted. “Was given v firm advice ‘Talk about anything except one subject.’ Brexit? ‘No, The Sussexes.”
The Queen snubbed by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry
When news broke that the Queen didn’t want to talk about Harry or Markle, people believed she may have still been offended that the young couple decided not to visit her at Balmoral as the royal family has for years.
“Harry and Meghan had no plans to go to Balmoral this summer as they felt Archie was too young,” an insider told The Sun.
This excuse didn’t quite make sense as Markle and Harry had just been to Ibiza and France with their baby.
“If they want privacy or protection — which was Harry’s excuse for taking private jets — there is no more protected or private holiday destination than the Queen’s Scottish home,” the source continued.
“It’s all very hunting, shooting, fishing up at Balmoral, so maybe that put Meghan off. She has never been to Balmoral and the Queen was disappointed they’re not going.”
Why doesn’t the Queen want to talk about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?
Though people may think that the Queen is nixing all talk of Prince Harry and Markle out of anger, royal insiders actually believe that she may have done this out of love for the rest of her family.
“I’ve seen a lot of, for instance, sporting parents that I think do grow tired when they got three children but one’s made it, they are famous in the paper,” royal commentator Ryan Phelan said.
“I understand, she has a large number of kids and grandkids who she is probably very proud of as well. She would rather talk about them than just Harry and Meghan all the time.”
It’s true that there are many things to talk about other than just the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The Queen has four children, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, so it makes sense that she wouldn’t want Harry to monopolize all of the conversations.
Did Prince Harry and Markle actually snub the Queen?
As it turns out, the Duke and Duchess may not have actually even been expected to go to Balmoral.
“They have had a very busy working summer,” an insider told the Daily Mail when news of the declined invitation first came out. “A lot of work has been going on behind the scenes for the Duke’s Travalyst initiative, which was launched this week, and the Duchess’s Smart Works fashion project which launches next Thursday.”
“They were back having meetings at Kensington Palace from early August with just two short breaks in between and are busy preparing for their official trip to Africa which starts this month.”
So maybe there are no hard feelings with the Queen after all.
