The Real Reason Why Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson Avoid Social Media
Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguilera got their starts in very different ways.
Clarkson was the first winner of American Idol. She went on to become one of the show’s more successful stars. Her rise to fame was totally non-traditional.
Unlike Clarkson, Aguilera began her career young, and landed her first job in the entertainment industry through an audition, which is pretty much the most traditional way to get into the business. She was a Mouseketeer when she was a child, and starred alongside Justin Timberlake, and Britney Spears.
Even though these two are different, they have a lot in common now. They’re both moms, and they’re both social media averse. That’s pretty uncommon in their industry, but these ladies have their reasons for staying off social media.
Why Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguilera avoid social media
Both of these ladies grew up without the internet. Now that everyone is posting selfies all the time, they feel vain taking so many picture of themselves. Even though they’re huge stars, they can’t wrap their heads around fans being interested in their regular old pictures. They’re both very humble.
Their kids help them stay that way. Aguilera has two children. She had her son, Max Liron (11), with ex-husband Jordan Bratman. After her divorce, Aguilera got together with her current fiancé Matt Rutler. They share a daughter, Summer Rain, 4.
Clarkson has a boy and a girl too. She and her husband Brandon Blackstock got together in 2012, and were married in 2013. Her daughter, River Rose, is 5. Her son Remington is 3.
Neither superstar can imagine what it will be like when their kids are old enough to be on social media. Clarkson joked that her kids won’t be allowed a phone at all. She’ll just tell them to “send a pigeon.”
Their kids aren’t impressed by their careers
It turns out that kids always think their mom is kind of lame, even if she’s an internationally renowned singing sensation. Clarkson and Aguilera commiserated over this, so we know it’s a pervasive issue for celebrity children. Both stars say when they try to sing with their children, the little ones will shush them with one finger.
Both women are a little offended by this, especially considering how much a private concert with either of them could go for. But the kids don’t appreciate how lucky they are to be serenaded by someone who has been on the Billboard Top 100. As Clarkson says to her daughter, “people pay for this!” and these little guys get it for free.
Being a working mom is hard, even for these two
Aguilera admits she didn’t tour for many years because she didn’t want to leave her children for long periods of time. She feels that kids need structure, and being apart from them could interrupt their schedules. Now that she’s performing again, she still tries to make sure there’s structure in her kids’ lives. When she gets off stage after her set, the first thing she thinks about is a bedtime story.
Considering Aguilera didn’t have an easy childhood, she might be trying to give her kids what she never had. Aguilera was a child star, and she had a troubled family life. She also moved around a lot. Her father was in the army, so she lived all over the world as a child. All of these things combined would make life pretty unstructured for a young child.
It’s great to see that these two singers have so much in common. Hopefully fans will get to see a collaboration in the future!
