The Real Reason Why Queen Elizabeth Skipped Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles’s Wedding

Typically, when a couple gets married, it is one of the most exciting times not only for them but for their families as well. In most situations, the parents of the couple are front and center at the ceremony, smiling and often crying tears of joy. Whether it is their child’s first wedding, or if they have been married in the past, the parents usually couldn’t be happier.

When Prince William and Kate Middleton got married, Kate’s father walked his daughter down the aisle with a heartfelt smile on his face, while her mother sat in the front of Westminster Abbey with a sentimental look on her face. Also, when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry exchanged vows, Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, rode to the chapel with her daughter and later described the ceremony as being “superb”.

A child’s wedding day is a special time for their parents, one that they often look forward to for years. So, why is it that Queen Elizabeth skipped Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles‘s wedding?

Was Queen Elizabeth at Charles and Diana’s wedding?

The mother of the future king attended his nuptials to his first wife. Although it is a known fact that she rushed the wedding photos, she was still in attendance at the royal event. That makes all of the difference in the world.

Supposedly, her majesty was extremely hungry and wanted the photo session to be over so that the reception could get started and food could be served. While this likely didn’t make Diana very happy, we all know that Queen Elizabeth can do as she pleases. The fact that she was there to support her son and Diana speaks volumes.

The queen did not miss the weddings of her grandsons

The weddings of Prince William and Prince Harry were broadcast live and watched by millions around the world. While everyone was excited to see Kate and Meghan arrive at the venues to marry their princes, it didn’t go unnoticed that one of the most exciting parts was watching the queen being driven to the events on both occasions.

Queen Elizabeth was chauffeured to Saint George’s Chapel for Meghan and Harry’s big day along with Prince Philip, wearing a bright green outfit and matching hat embellished with purple flowers. During the ceremony, Harry’s grandmother sat in the seat that offered her the best view of the bride and groom. At William and Kate’s wedding, the queen, dressed in a bright yellow ensemble, and in the official pictures, the proud grandmother sat proudly in the front row by her grandson’s side.

The real reason that Queen Elizabeth skipped the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla

It is easy to assume that although it was his second wedding, Queen Elizabeth would be overjoyed to see her oldest son so happy, marrying the woman that he loved. Add in the fact that being Charles’s wife means that Camilla is the future queen, and royal fans likely would have expected to see the queen attending the event.

So, what is the real reason that she wasn’t there? It turns out that Queen Elizabeth did not attend because as head of the Church of England, she wasn’t able to attend a civil ceremony. It should be noted, however, that she did attend the service of dedication that was held later and also hosted a lavish wedding reception for her son.

It turns out, the queen had a good reason for not attending the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla. She stayed true to her duties and what she stands for.
