The Reason Melania Trump Really Hates Living in the White House With Donald Trump
When she first moved into her new home in summer 2017, the first lady said that she was settling in well and called it “a very special place.” But because of her body language, and a few statements she’s made, many believe otherwise.
So, is it true? Does Melania really hate living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? Here’s why some say she doesn’t like it at all — including the reason she isn’t enjoying her new lifestyle (page 8).
Melania Trump and Barron move into White House
The First Lady and her son, Barron, did not move into the White House with the president right away. This raised some eyebrows, but it was explained that she stayed behind in New York so their son could finish his school year there.
However, multiple sources have claimed that Melania simply loved her life in her luxurious Trump Tower penthouse and did not want to have to actually move to Washington D.C.

Her body language and demeanor
From the looks of disgust to the refusal to hold hands in public to the hand swat seen ’round the world. People have constantly speculated about Melania’s demeanor and why she seems so unhappy.
After her smile to frown on Inauguration Day went viral the #FreeMelania hashtag started trending. Since then, “Free Melania” accounts have been created on social media by people who believe her body language says it all and feel sorry for the first lady.

She wished she was ‘on a deserted island’
Melania’s own words regarding her Christmas wish in 2017 really sent reports about how unhappy she is living at the White House into overdrive.
While visiting the Children’s National Hospital in D.C. around the holidays a young boy asked Mrs. Trump, “If you could spend the holidays anywhere in the world, where would you go?” Melania’s response wasn’t exactly what people were expecting her to say.
“I would spend my holidays on a deserted island, a tropical island,” she answered. “With my family.”

She is a very private person
Melania is much more private than her husband and always liked to keep a rather low profile. However, when married to the president of the United States and living at the most famous address in the country you lose that privacy.
Because of that fact, many believe what was alleged in Michael Wolff’s book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House that Melania “was in tears — and not of joy” when Trump won the 2016 presidential election.

Headlines have been scandalous
There hasn’t been a shortage of negative press surrounding the Trump family since the election, but the stories that are likely the most hurtful to the first lady are the ones about her husband’s alleged affairs. This is evident in the fact that she canceled trips and refused to travel with him after the stories broke.
In March 2018, former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal and porn star Stormy Daniels each did revealing interviews about their alleged affairs with the president back in 2006 right around the time Melania gave birth to Barron.
“What’s happening is exactly what she didn’t want to happen,” a source said. “They’ve literally become like the Kardashians: scandals, divorces, headlines.”
Next: This is not Melania’s thing.
She feels out of her element
In 2015, Melania said in an interview that she spends her time playing tennis, doing Pilates, and reading. Fast forward a few years and now she has to squeeze in public events and dinners with state leaders. According to sources, she feels out of her element at those affairs.
“She doesn’t have a lot to say. She’s not a conversationalist overall. With her friends, yes … But at a state dinner or with other leaders, she’s not one to step up and lead conversation,” People’s source explained.
A second source added that “There’s not a lot of peaceful downtime,” and that’s another reason “this lifestyle doesn’t work for her.”

The stiff inaugural dance
That evening, it was their first dance on what should have been one of their happiest nights together. But instead, they both looked super uncomfortable and like they wanted to be somewhere else.
The internet certainly took notice of how the president and first lady were forcing themselves to smile throughout the dance, and at one point, Melania refused to even fake it. The sour face she wore most of the time was not something we expected to see during that dance.

Melania ‘hates’ the 24-hour attention
If you have your eye on any 24-hour news cycle these days you can’t help but see something about President Trump. No matter which news outlet you choose to watch there will be stories about him or his family.
One of the sources who spoke to People claimed it’s that constant 24-hour attention that has gotten to Melania and it bothers her more than anything else.
“No one was paying attention to her two years ago,” the source said. “They went about their day. Now it’s a 24/7 tornado. She hates it.

The awkward air kiss
The couple’s Inauguration Day awkwardness made our list again. This time, for the chilly air kiss Melania gave her husband prior to one of the biggest speeches of his life.
You would think a good luck kiss on the cheek would be in order for this moment, but this type of gesture between the pair looked like they didn’t want to even touch one another — and so they didn’t.

The refusal to hold hands again
The very next day after the infamous hand swat, the couple arrived in Rome and it was take two of Mrs. Trump refusing to hold her husband’s hand.
This was a blink-and-you-miss-it moment and probably wouldn’t have been such a big deal had it not been for the hand swat the day before.

That cringeworthy handshake
One of the most cringe-worthy moments between the president and first lady was during an appearance at Joint Base Andrews in September 2017. After Melania introduced her husband, he gave her a handshake before speaking. Yes, they shook hands. No hug or even an air kiss this time.
It looked all business, and Melania was basically treated like one of her husband’s associates he just closed a deal with. Following that move, he gave her a motion to get off the stage and told her to go sit down. Awkward!

This ‘liked’ tweet
It appeared that the first lady “liked” a tweet on her personal account, suggesting that her relationship with the president was strained. “Seems the only #Wall @realDonaldTrump‘s built is the one between him and @FLOTUS #Melania #trump,” the tweet read.
We know President Trump loves Twitter, but we bet he wasn’t loving this. So of course, the communications director had to come out and say something. The excuse given was that the “like” did not come from Melania herself, but someone else and therefore, the password on her account was being changed.

Melania’s constant look of misery
Even if Melania is playing her part as the first lady, her face can’t hide her true feelings. Body language expert Patti Wood revealed to Cosmopolitan just how much Melania has changed since her husband became a presidential candidate.
Past photographs reveal Melania being expressive and joyful, but since the start of her husband’s campaign, her demeanor has shifted. Her body language can regularly be described as “stiff,” as put on display during her first dance with Donald at the inaugural ball.
Wood explained that since becoming the first lady, Melania has become someone “whose shoulders go down, whose mouth turns down, who gives furtive, down-gazing looks, and who is tense, tight, small, and unhappy.”

Donald’s tweet defending Melania
The president wasn’t exactly pleased to hear speculations regarding Melania’s misery in the White House. He took to Twitter, naturally, to prove that Melania was actually loving her new role.
He wrote, “Melania, our great and very hard working first lady, who truly loves what she is doing, always thought that ‘if you run, you will win.’ She would tell everyone that, ‘no doubt, he will win.’ I also felt I would win (or I would not have run) – and Country is doing great!”
The desperate tone of the tweet seems to have the opposite effect, suggesting that everything’s not as coming up roses as he claims. Many Twitter users suspected Trump was covering up Melania’s true feelings about her new job. One user replied, “So she doesn’t work hard and she doesn’t like what she is doing? The truth hurts, jerk. But lying is worse.”
It wouldn’t be the first time Donald lied on Twitter about how successful his presidency has been so far. For example, he tweeted that his job approval rating was “not bad” in July 2017, when in reality, his ratings hit a historic all-time low compared to every past president at the same point.
