The Surprising Way Reese Witherspoon Learned to Ignore Her Own Pregnancy Rumors
Movie stars have to learn to deal with the pressures of public life while also maintaining a thriving career. One particular movie star has had more than her fair share of tabloid rumors over the years, especially with two high-profile marriages under her belt: Reese Witherspoon.
As America’s sweetheart, the Academy Award-winning actress has appeared in some of the most popular romantic comedies of all time, as well as a number of acclaimed dramas. Recently, she opened up about one of the more surprising rumors that she has encountered during the course of her career — pregnancy.
How many children does Reese Witherspoon have?
Witherspoon first started achieving success as a child actor, and by the time she was a teenager, she was widely recognizable by fans all over the United States. She was also considered to be one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood, with an attitude that many compared to sunshine and sweet, blonde good looks. When she was 21 years old, she met actor Ryan Phillippe and the two hit it off immediately. They were married two years later, and ultimately welcomed two children together: daughter Ava Elizabeth Phillippe and son Deacon Reese Phillippe.
Sadly, Witherspoon and Phillippe had their fair share of marital troubles, and in 2006, they split for good. Witherspoon started dating talent agent Jim Toth in 2010. They got engaged in December 2010 and got married in March 2011 — a little over a year later, they had a son that they named Tennessee Toth.
What shocking rumor almost cost Reese Witherspoon a role?
Although Witherspoon has three children of her own, the media seems constantly ready to set her up with another. On a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Witherspoon admitted that she has frequently had to deal with false pregnancy rumors all throughout her career. She admitted that it happened a lot fifteen years ago, when her career was first starting to really take off, and in general, she wouldn’t respond to the rumors.
However, Witherspoon said that during the middle of filming a movie, a magazine came out that claimed she was pregnant, and the contract she had signed for the film specified that she couldn’t get pregnant during filming. In a panic, Witherspoon had her attorney call the magazine to have the false claims retracted. While the magazine did ultimately retract the story, they apparently ran a follow-up the week after that stated Witherspoon wasn’t actually pregnant — she was just “bloated.” Needless to say, Witherspoon kept her job, and ultimately became one of the highest-paid and most in-demand actresses in the world.
How does Witherspoon deal with rumors now?
The acclaimed actress has long since learned how to deal with the media and is an expert at managing her own image. She has appeared in some of the biggest films of the past decade, including Home Again, A Wrinkle in Time, Gone Girl, and Sing. She’s also created a huge television following due to the incredible success of her HBO show, Big Little Lies.
Towards the end of her interview with DeGeneres, Witherspoon admitted that she ignores rumors about her personal life these days. After all, she has plenty to focus on at home, with Ava entering college and Deacon beginning his high school career. Plus, Witherspoon’s career is on fire as she prepares for an all-new season of Big Little Lies, set to debut in June 2019.
