The Sweet Gift Taylor Swift Sent Kobe Bryant’s Daughter
Kobe Bryant’s family has had a tough time this year. After the tragic and sudden deaths of Kobe and his daughter Gianna, his wife Vanessa and three remaining daughters, Natalia, Capri, and Bianka have been trying to live life as normally as possible. People around the world have sent the family their condolences and well wishes. When Taylor Swift dropped her recent album Folklore, she also sent Natalia a special gift.
Kobe Bryant’s death
On Jan. 26, Kobe and Gianna were traveling to the Mamba Academy near Thousand Oaks, California in a helicopter when it crashed. At 9:47 am, police were called to the scene. Both Giana and Bryant died along with the seven other people on board, including the helicopter’s pilot.
Kobe was a loving husband and father. At his memorial, Vanessa gave a speech about just how great of a person he was and how devoted he was to his children.
“I want my daughters to know and remember the amazing person, husband, and father he was,” she said. “The kind of man that wanted to teach future generations to be better and keep them from making his own mistakes. He always liked working and doing projects to improve kids’ lives. He taught us all valuable lessons about life and sports through his NBA career, his books, his show, “Detail,” and his “Punies” podcast series.”
Taylor Swift’s gift
On July 24, Swift released her latest album Folklore. She also sent a special gift to a few of her fans. The first single on the album is a song called “Cardigan.” Swift sent Natalia a special cardigan to commemorate the event.
“Thank you SO much @taylorswift…I am OBSESSED with ‘Folklore’!!!” Natalia captioned a picture of the gift on her Instagram story.
Vanessa also shared a picture of Natalia with the gift and wrote, “Thank you @taylorswift #Cardigan.”
If fans want the cardigan as well, they can purchase it from Swift’s website, along with a copy of Folklore for $49.
What is the significance of ‘Cardigan’?
Fans of Swift know that the singer is all about singing about her personal life, but also loves to create elaborate stories with her music.
“In isolation my imagination has run wild and this album is the result, a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness,” she wrote on Instagram. “Picking up a pen was my way of escaping into fantasy, history, and memory. I’ve told these stories to the best of my ability with all the love, wonder, and whimsy they deserve. Now it’s up to you to pass them down. Folklore is out now.”
She purposely left things in the album for fans to find.
“One thing I did purposely on this album was put the Easter eggs in the lyrics, more than just the videos,” she said, according to Entertainment Tonight. “I created character arcs and recurring themes that map out who is singing about who.”
The single was particularly special to Swift.
Cardigan is about “a lost romance and why young love is often fixed so permanently within our memories. Why it leaves such an indelible mark,” she said.
What other Easter eggs are in the album?
Folklore is decidedly less poppy than some of Swift’s previous works. There are quite a few breakup songs on the album, which has caused fans to wonder if she and her beau Joe Alwyn are either on the rocks or completely broken up. There have also been rumors that “Betty,” “Cardigan,” and “August” tell three different sides to the same story.
