The Top Three Biggest TLC Scandals of All Time
TLC is no stranger to scandal. While every network deals with a problem from time to time, The Learning Channel seems to have had more than their fair share of issues with their reality stars. From molestation revelations to child abuse scandals, to romantic rendezvous gone awry, TLC has seen it all. Today we are rounding up just three of the biggest scandals that have rocked the channel.
Josh Duggar molested his sister than cheated on his wife
Josh Duggar is the poster child for controversy. With a family of 19, the Duggars have positioned themselves as a wholesome, god-fearing family, but it seems that eldest son Josh had more skeletons in his closet than most people. Not only did the former golden boy molest his sisters and a family friend when he was a teen, but he also carried on extra-marital affairs.
In 2015, Josh was outed as a sexual offender when In Touch printed police reports that chronicled Josh’s actions. The allegations stem from events that occurred before the family became famous. Later that year, Duggar found himself in hot water again when his Ashley Madison dating profile was discovered, according to The Huffington Post. He later went on to admit to cheating on his
The molestation allegations led to the cancelation of 19 Kids and Counting, the Duggar family’s longstanding reality show. TLC later brought several of the siblings back for Counting On, a spinoff that chronicles the Duggar children as they date, marry and have children of their own.
TLC bids farewell to Here Comes Honey Boo Boo
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo propelled the Shannons to fame after Alana Thompson and her frisky family appeared on TLC’s Toddlers and Tiaras. However, heir days in the spotlight were numbered once it was revealed that Mama June Shannon was spotted with a man who was convicted of child molestation.
Mark McDaniel spent several years in prison after he was convicted of lewd acts on a child. Once he was sprung from the big house, he went right back to hanging out with Mama June, the mother of his victim. TLC had more than enough at that point and swiftly canceled the show. Shannon, 39, found herself on TV again in Not to Hot, a reality show that follows her weight loss journey. Not to Hot airs on We TV.
Mama June has even bigger fish to fry now, though. The reality show star was recently arrested. According to E!, she was arrested for possession of a controlled substance following a domestic dispute with her boyfriend. He was also taken into custody.
Maybe polygamy isn’t for everyone
While the Brown family looks downright angelic compared to the Duggars and Mama June, they still have some things to hide. The show Sister Wives aimed to bring the concept of polygamy to
Not only can Meri, Kody Brown’s first wife, not get along with Christine, Brown’s third wife, but she was also catfished. In 2015, Meri carried on a relationship with a person she believed was a man named Sam. Instead, Meri was carrying on a relationship with a woman named Jackie, and Jackie is kind of crazy. Not only did she spend the better part of a year catfishing Meri, but she began to systematically release sexts, voicemails and chat transcripts to the public, according to In Touch.
While Meri’s indiscretion is nothing compared to the other two scandals, it certainly did nothing to help Brown’s promote their lifestyle. Meri and Kody divorced so he could officially marry his fourth wife, Robyn. Meri remains in a relationship with Kody. The family’s show is still in production.
