The Touching Way How Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle Honored Princess Diana at Archie’s Christening

Princess Diana was (and still is) one of the most popular royals ever. She was called “The People’s Princess” and her selfless humanitarian work touched many lives around the world.

Her death in 1997 was also a tragic one that came too soon for the 36-year-old mother of two. However, several royal family members today — especially Prince William, Prince Harry, and their wives — are determined to keep Princess Diana’s spirit alive.

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are known to honor her in many things that they do and Baby Archie’s recent christening was no different. Here are the different ways in which Middleton and Markle paid tribute to the late Princess Diana.

Middleton has been in the royal family for almost ten years now and the amount of times that she honored Princess Diana has been enormous.

However, for Archie’s christening, the most prominent thing that the Duchess of Cambridge did was wear special earrings. She chose to don the Collingwood pearl earrings that Princess Diana herself wore to Prince Harry’s christening back in 1984. No doubt it was a great jewelry piece to wear to celebrate Prince Harry’s first child.

Some fans, though, thought that the move was inappropriate and that Markle should have been the one to wear those earrings. There are even reports that Middleton and Markle were feuding on Archie’s big day. Of course, these are merely rumors and it’s hard to know whether Middleton was intentionally taking any jabs at Markle or not.

Even without the earrings, Markle already had a few things she could do to pay tribute to Princess Diana. First off, she chose to dress Archie is the same famous gown that had been worn by his cousins Prince George, Prince Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The dress is a replica of another dress that was worn by 62 royals over 163 years from Princess Victoria in 1841 to Lady Louise Windsor in 2004.

Princess Diana dressed Prince William and Prince Harry in it the original as well for their respective christenings. After Lady Louise Windsor’s christening, though, the queen ordered for the original gown to be retired and a replica was made. This is what the new generation of royals have been wearing since then.

Additionally, at Archie’s christening, Princess Diana’s two sisters were present. Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale were spotted in the official christening portrait alongside Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, and Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland.

Which daughter-in-law would Princess Diana have liked more?

Both Middleton and Markle seem to appreciate Princess Diana and try to channel her spirit as best as they can. And if Princess Diana was still here, she probably would have liked them both. However, royal fans are always wondering about which daughter-in-law the late princess would have gotten along with better.

Many people believe that Princess Diana would have liked how much Middleton is cut out to be a future queen. The Duchess of Cambridge seemed to move into her royal role effortlessly and is a perfect picture of poise and grace. Not only that, but Middleton has been praised for her parenting skills as well, making her simply a great consort to Prince William should he become king later on.

On the other hand, though, Princess Diana’s personality is very similar to Markle’s. Princess Diana was known to be quite rebellious and always breaking royal rules — something that can definitely be seen these days in Markle. The two of them love changing up royal traditions and really pushing the envelope.

Additionally, both Markle and Princess Diana are passionate about humanitarian work: Markle was already trying to make a difference long before she became famous. A lot of fans believe that if Princess Diana was still alive, she and Markle could definitely bond over this shared interest of theirs.

It’s clear that Princess Diana could find reasons to love both her daughter-in-law, though there’s no doubt that she is slightly more similar to Markle than Middleton.
